Again the class of .Eighty Three prevailed with the number one float. But, the main event this year was Football! We had 13 seniors out for football 10 of which made All-Conference. Our seniors paved the path to the Semi- Finals of the State Playoffs. Also many classmates excelled in “Ex- tra” curricular activities. Florida here we come! We thought being upperclassmen would be fun. Ha! Our Pac-Man Float didn’t munch up first place like we anticipated, but our Junior boys wocka-walked all over the Senior men at the tug-of-war contest at the bonfire. We sold candy at the athletic games provided the mice didn’t beat us to it. Numerous Juniors partici- pated in sports and excelled in all of them. Being a Junior means: Having your own set of car keys and staying out past 10:30 Ruling when the Seniors go to Florida and one more year at I.H.S. Slumber Party You caught Pac-Man Fever, too! Our Homecoming weekend began on Thursday Oc- tober 14th, with the bonfire. In the past the bonfire has been just that, but this year was different. Announce- ment of the Homecoming King and Queen was saved for the dance, with many other events replacing the crowning. The bonfire provided fun-filled activities for all ages. The traditional Homecoming parade held Friday in- creased unbelievably to almost 50 entries. Our Grand Marshalls. Mr. and Mrs. Lee, led the parade. Many of the businesses entered floats and also decorated their buildings. We were all psyched up for the main event — Pirates vs. Indians 52-0. The final event was the Homecoming Dance that overflowed the old gym. The announcement of the King and Queen was the highpoint of the weekend. The 1983 graduating players will be sorely missed next year but a sound nucleus will return. As in 1982, the girls continued to improve. All those December practice days are paying off in better basketball at Illiopolis. Even though the girls experienced a losing season, there is a learning process involved in athletics that defeat cannot diminish. They have learned of discipline, defeat, winning, and motivation long before their fellow students are aware of the outside world. Athletes are better prepared for life because of their good fortune to compete. 47 AG DAY Ag Day this year wasn’t as successful as it has been in the past. Due to weather, animals couldn’t be outside (or they would have frozen), but the displays in the all purpose room made up for the in- climate weather. Thanks to all who par- ticipated or helped! Batchelder The 1983 boys track season was very successful. The squad had a record of 12-3 with one triangular meet remaining. This season marked the end of the high track careers for six senior 4-year lettermen. These boys are Steve Batchelder, David Hawkins, Brian Herold, Troy Lamb, Andy Rueck, and Phil Young. Each of these boys holds a school record. Records broken this year were the 3200 meter relay, which included Steve Batchelder, Brian Herold, Troy Lamb and Andy Rueck, and the Pole Vault, which Troy Lamb tied. The 3200 meter relay time was 8:52.3. Lamb's vault was 12’. Troy Lamb, Brian Herold, and David Hawkins each amassed more than 100 points for the season. The Varsity placed 5th in the Sangamon County meet. The Junior Varsity placed 5th in both the County and Conference meets. Sophomore Doug Lybarger won the 3200 meter run at both of these meets. I All are present except for Lynda Phillips and Phil Young. Lynda is guest appearing on the • Richard Simmons show and using the slogan; an apple a day keeps the “Doctor” (Scott Bower) away. Phil’s busy starring in his new movie D EBB IK DOES DALLAS and we hear a crowd is waiting for him at his house. As we enter, Tammy Ealey and Dawn Embrey are taking tickets. As we continue, we enter Main Street, where we see Penny and the Prowlers performing at their usual place. Georgia Beck and Lorie Cartwright are nearby entertaining some armed forces men. As we proceed, we see John Kaylor selling ' spuds,” beside him is Brian Herold peddling Pepsi, which he seems to enjoy very much. Dhvid_ Hankins is also there selling taffy, since we all know how he likes candy.” Robin Stone is heard'to reply, “OH GOD!” Njcki Bartolazzi looks very upset because her hair is “twanging.” Kathy Karrick. owner of Space Mountain, has opened a new ride called the “Airhead. Angela Ramsey is in charge of the bumper cars since they are “crash proof.” Bill Ballinger has also onened a new ride “The Tank.” Winnie BurdzilauSfas is working in the cafe serving lunch since she got so much experience at the Holiday Inn. RrS? B,,-ringer is in charge of protecting the newly poured concrete. Look, here comes Police Chief. Gary Oriesheim. Jennifer Murphyfs the new “lyon and lamb” trainer now that she has Troy so well Warned. Glenna Bradham has “promised” to run the ring toss, since she always loved to play games, especially with rings. Marcy Muir seems to be very impatiently awaiting the arrival of her o cort ■ Dunn is seen with her unique “Silver Fox” while she runs the race cars. Dm Bhanging loose and having a good time and every once and a while we hear hi fEW!Now here are the owners of Walt Disney World, Olympic Star. Sherman Silll ■Snyder, and multi-millionare, Jeff Bullock. These three are better known as th« feteve Batchelder is appearing on stage with his trained fleas and right behind him! BAndv Rueck. Lori Hofferkamp is here looking for people to join T.F.A. (Twiggy [Foundation of America). We understand that Bill Ealey is playing “Shoot the Hoop” and havin® great difficulty standing up and putting it in. What’s the matter Bill? We have come to find ouj that Pam Perkinson and Rhonda Richards could not attend today because they are “tickled pinlll over being nuns. There’s been a crash in the parking lot. It seems John Snyder has wrecked wH e trying to plant a kiss. Here comes the ambulance with its new crew Lisa arid Denise Saulsbery. Rumor has it that Rodney West and Kayla Karrick were seen “parking” cars in the Walt Disney Parking lot, since they love parking. It seems amazing that these “Super Seniors” didn’t get wit Scott. Step! McMahan yell WHOOi Playboy, three stoc is another pes ‘Super Jobs. OCEANS OF FUN The Florida bound Seniors departed from the school parking lot on May 22nd. Everyone got plenty of sleep on the bus (at least 10 minutes). We checked into Daytona Beach’s White Hall Inn and all became beach bums for a week. Wednesday was the trip we all anxiously awaited — Walt Disney World which was everything we expected. All and all it was a trip to remember. We’d like to thank Mr. and Mrs. Turnbull, Mr. Salmela and Mr. Otting for being our sponsors. 72 GOLDEN CORD The fourth Annual Gold- en Cord Awards Night was held on May 10,1983 at the United Methodist Church. The speaker for the even- ing was Mr. James Bliler. Mrs. Donald Whitten, Mrs. Russell Harmon and Mrs. C.E.
