(Sponsors)-Advertisements . . 79 Dedication Mrs. Freeman moved to Lou- isiana in December. She was a teacher, coach, sponsor, and a true friend. We went to her for the right adjective with the giv- en noun, the correct stride to run the relay, the proper know-how to set the volleyball in the air, and for lots of friendly advice. Mrs. Freeman was there when we needed her warmth and kindness. We will always remember her for these attributes. 3 4 Producers (Administration) Superintendent Dean Rademaker Principal Michael Francis Bookkeeper Carolyn Lamb Secretary Brenda Hilleson Guidance Counselor Rod Williamson School Board President Richard Ervin I Board Members: Front Row- Robert Proctor, Richard Graves, Nancy Dale. After several set- backs , we finally finished our float for Homecoming and won second place with our Internation- al tractor. Our great class was re- presented on all varsity teams and played an important role in gain- ing victories. On the volleyball team, we had four juniors who were starting varsity players. Three of our classmates started on the varsity basketball team and several juniors were proven assets to the varsity football squad. To earn money for Florida, we sold over-priced and sometimes stale candy, gum, and Pirate cushions at all the home games. We were the first class to hold our prom and dinner at the Forum Thirty in Springfield. Because we've had an outstanding year as juniors, we're sure to do even better as seniors. We have watched our classmates participate in every sport, some have even started on varsity. We also have four Sophomore girls on the cheerleading squad. We have all had a great year, thanks to the support and great advice of our sponsors-Mrs. Freeman and Coach Smalling. We were all disappointed when Mrs. Freeman had to leave. She was replaced by our new sponsor, Mrs. Woodrum. I'm sure no one in our class will forget the memories of this year. Thanks 1HS! Standing Donna Peters, Donna Rohrig, Robin Bloxam, and Andy Miller. The doors of IHS had to open wide for the freshman class of 1979. Although we were not big with floats, we are great with students; 52 to be exact. We have var- ious members participating in all organizations and events offered. For our money making project we sold candles. The project turned out to be a great success for our first endeavor; we can proudly say it has been a great year! Author Unknown 24 Football Follies The pirates kicked off their sea- son with a great start this year. Everyone's spirits soared; we were ready for action after last season's disappointment over the state - finals. As we battled our way to the top, we had some pretty tough competition. We lost a decisive game to Assumption as the last hope of a Meridian Conference championship diminished before our eyes. We ended our confer- ence season with a 5-2 record, and our over-all record was 6-3 Co-Captains Doug Ford, Rick Lamb, and Rob Davis Coaches Jerry Samlling and Dave McCarthy What did you say coach? 1 caught it! 26 From L to R: Top Row: R. The team's overall record was 18 wins and 9 losses. Some of the highlights of the season were a third place finish in the Sangamon County tournament and a second place finish in the regional touma - ment. The thrill of a victory over Blue Mound gave us a first place finish in the Meridian Conference tournament (the first since 1953)! Individual honors were gathered by Rick Lamb throughout the year and in the tournaments. The following boys remained on the squad for the entire year. On the deck welcoming the guests aboard are Diana Wilson and Dawn Neeley. They were chosen for this job because they are open and friendly with anyone. Now arriving is Margaret Burdzilauskas being escorted by her latest busboy lover. They are planning to open a Holiday Inn on Fantasy .Inland. Julie Hohenstein is crawling on her knees begging Margaret to let her open up a second-hand clothing store in her new Holiday Inn. Julie's business will make a 100% profit because she picked up all the clothes along the way. Rob Davis, famous trampoline manufacturer, is tagging along after Julie as usual. Already on the deck, Tia Lyon is trying to catch all the rays! We heard she had an offer to do a commercial for Sizzlean. Jerry Lyon, Tia's husband, is the owner of Sizzlean Pork Packing Company because he has always been known to make a pig of himself. In Jerry's spare time he is a professional hog-caller since it is his native tongue, (oink, oink). Now we see Mrs. Mary Ellen Gass and Mrs. Tammy Ford, they are both content housewives since they got who they wanted. Entering are Mark Crain and Carol Draoing currently park rangers at the Head East National Park of Columbia. V f. £ I Tonight's entertainment includes two impersonation acts, Tina Muir, the famous Male impersonator and Rob McLaughlin, who is still trying to make it with his Elvis act. Rick Lamb is captain of the Love Boat and also is into entertaining. He performs ' 'magic'' tricks during the half times of basketball games. Man overboard ! ! ! Dave Blakeman, currently preaching die gospel of Mohamed Amed Rick, has just jumped overboard. Why did he do it? Because Captain Rick ordered him to ... We are now approaching Fantasy Island. We can see Brenda Mendenhall welcoming the guests. She is wearing only her native tan, since she doesn't have anything to hide. Standing by is Jeff Havener with his ambulance, alias his old high school van. He is waiting to see if Cindy Wilson can make it off the boat without breaking the other leg. . Joan Kapper has finally arrived and has been playing in the National Woman's Softball tournament. Joan was late because Jim Lee couldn't get his plane off the ground. Duane German is having a party tonight at his Fantasy Island Bowling Alley. Too bad he will not be able to attend because he has to set the pins. Susan Dunn is the party's ' 'hostess with the mostess''. Since Doug Ford has devel- oped ulcers from all his wine, women, and fast living, we thought he would settle down. But, there he goes running after the hostess with the mostess. Brenda Mendenhall is announcing the guests using Paula Meister as a P.A. Sys- tem. The first party guest is the Love Boat Boutique owner-Irvin Seay and his famous models - Judy Willis and Charles Karrick. Ethan Basler is entering, surrounded by beautiful women. He has become a physics professor and won the Nobel Piece Prize for discovering what makes the female sex tick. Sam Provines is also here with his dust mop in hand. Sam is the author of a new book called Sex and the Common Custodian. Mary Beck has become the official bubble maker on the Lawrence Welk Show. Even with the gas shortage, Rob Hancock has had a lot of gas lately — he accidently swallowed some of Mary's bubbles. Other famous guests include Mary McDermott who is a star-tak- ing over the role of Tracy Quartermain on General Hospital. It appears she has been type cast. Marsha Crist is now using Paula, the P.A. challenging anyone to a boxing match. It seems her high school exper- ience in beating up Bob's friends really helped. As our meal is being served Jeff Adkins stands to comment on the vegtable. Jeff works for a famous canning com- pany as the Jolly Green Giant and Christy Reilly is his little green sprout. Oh! there is someone screaming — Bruce Hallam has just run over class sponsor Connie Forster, and Mrs. Hurley is yelling ' 'now girls''. It seems Bruce wanted to join ' 'Hell's Angels'' but they said he didn't meet their heighth standards. Barb Hohenstein is now entering VERY LATE with Robert Redford, but she appears to have lost something — we thought she'd never lose it! Now it's time for the entertainment. Ted Bloxam is the lead singer with the Village Heads singing his hit remake of In The Navy '. And now for our final guest-Mr. Dave Orr is here on Fantasy Island to fulfill his fantasy of having this wonderful senior class in a 3 hour detention in a replica of the boys locker room. 65 Grand Finale (Graduation) BACCALAUREATE SERVICE ILLIOPOLIS HIGH SCHOOL SlUDAY. I had a very good staff this year. Everyone did their part and I feel we have done a very good job on the yearbook. The theme of our yearbook is based on terminologies describing movies, plays, and theaters. We have tried our best to represent our cast of characters in the space we have in our small book. Our classmates' suggestions and li- festyles are limitless but our yearbook pages are not. We hope you can recall special moments of the year as you look at our production. I would like to give special thanks to Miss Slater and Kim Ervin for cooperating with me. 1 apologize for having to work and missing out on a few meetings. I could go on and on about our staff this year, but I will just describe them in a few words. They were great and I am grateful to them for listening to our complaints and still working. They have done and redone pages for us. 1 have had fun all three years. It was an experience I'll never forget! 78 ARDEN POTTER AGENCY Complete Insurance Service Latham, Illinois Business (217) - 674-3744 Arden Potter Agent Home (217) - 674-3567 Best Wishes To The Class Of 1979 ILLIOPOLIS CAMPER SALES Montgomery Ward 201 E.
