Mr. Mike Francis, our principal, hailed from Buffalo where he was an art instructor at Tri-City. Mr. Dean Rademaker, our superintendent, came to our school system from Virginia, Illinois where he was Superintendent of Schools. Mrs. Carolyn Lamb, our secretary, was also new to the office where she managed to do a terrific job. Minor changes were initiated: attendance taken first hour, attendance and information sheets given out, lunch tickets sold before school, and the sign- out policy was changed. TOP RIGHT: Mr. Francis's duties include helping the yearbook staff take pic- tures. What Js A junior? All through Jr. High and your freshman and sophomore years you look up to the jun- iors. Seniors are almost gone and they seem to be a little snotty, but juniors have charisma! Big deal! The only thing different about this year compared to my freshman and sopho- more years is that I'm taking harder stubjects and I only have one more year 'till I'm out. Teachers and parents expect a whole lot out of you, sometimes more than you can give. Usually when you become a sophomore, you receive your license which means that you can now go cruising around town at night. I am glad I'm a sophomore because I'm not a freshman who gets knocked around and I have two more years to have fun in high school. As sophomores, a lot of us have our licenses, some get to start dating and our parents even trust us a little bit more. I feel like I'm at an age of insecurity, like what I've got today won't be here tomorrow. The future seems un- stable and confusing. Who Are Zlte Jreskmen? Freshmen are the people that get blamed for everything. Freshmen are the people that are afraid to go into the all-purpose room over the lunch hour. A Freshman is someone for the rest of the high school to push around. We get stuck with building the bonfire and then having the other classes tear it down, but it was worth it be cause our homecoming float won first place. Since there is only one fresman class a year we are all proud to be freshmen. A freshman is someone that has to put up with everyone else in school because everyone else is older and (thinks) they're better. I have been looking foward to being in high school since my first day in first grade. Class of 79 is great! L. TO R.: Mr. Orr, Sponsor; Barbara Hohenstein, Pres.; Joan Kapper, V. Games started in early November but it took until Christmas for us to really get the hang of play- ing as one unit. It was also our coach, Nancy Dale's, first experience in coaching volleyball. She did a great job, even though she had some pretty tough obstacles, like drilling the fundamentals of volleyball into our thick and stubborn skulls. All in all we feel both J. V. and Varsity teams had some very substantial victor- ies. We beat Riverton and Rochester on our home court and gave Cerro Gordo a good run for their money in the District play-offs at Niantic- Harristown. With nineteen of us stick- ing it out the whole season, we showed plenty of potential and are looking forward to next year. FIRST ROW, LEFT TO RIGHT: J. Blakemen, S. Mendenhall, R. Lamb, C. Bruns, L. Injuries plagued the entire squad throughout the season. It was determination and numer- ous rolls of tape that held them together many times. These players deserve a lot of credit though, for the hours of practice they have gone through. Many of them have spent every winter month for 6 years pounding the roundball on our gym floor. Besides, if it wasn't for basketball, what else would we do on Tuesday and Fri- day nights?!! 37 Compliments Of Jlliopolis Standard Station V Opponent We They Opponent We They Pawnee 71 45 Stonington 60 65 F indlay 85 49 Riverton 64 55 Tower Hill 84 57 Mt. Hardware Under the coaching abilities of Dean Brewer our J.V. team was excellent! We lost very few games throughout the season. With high hopes we entered the Bethany Fresh-Soph Tournament. On Feb. 28, 1976, the mighty Pirates defeated the No. 1 seeded, Blue Mound Knights. We then advanced to the semi-finals for a fierce battle with the Macon Ironmen. Unfortunatley the Pirates had the lower score when the buzzer rang. This meani that we would have to settle for 3rd place, by beating the Niantic Indians. Rick Lamb, one of the many aspiring atheletes we have here at Illiopolis, set 4 records, one having been set in 1964, by our own Mean Dean Brewer. Congratulations to the J. V. 's! You were great!!! 39 Compliments Of Niantic Grain Company Nancy Dale, once again, came through as a coach. She could usually be found out on the track trying to get it in shape. And on one occasion a few students were entertained by Mrs. Dale bobbing up and down on her tractor. Practice started early in March as our gal atheletes went into their fourth year of High School track. Having developed an excellent reputa- tion in girls' track, we like to think that this year continued that reputa- tion. Freshman Float Sophomore Float This year the Homecoming floats reflected hard work and headaches. The freshmen came out on top by capturing the first place award with the theme Holy Cow We'll Cream the Trojans and That's No Bull. The juniors came in second with the theme We'll Block Their Attack and Slide To a Victory. The senior float theme was very original, Souper Pirates Are M-M-M Good. The sopho- more contributed to the Bicenten- nial Spirit with the theme Pirates, At Liberty to Win, Justice Always. 61 Senior Float $ cow JAH 6 AHEM A DOHA LaUGHU HaRE sheets AMI WVil i CRO lEtfl L V«KT« («cut Compliments Of Jlliopolis Grain Co. 63 The Retiring King and Queen. Long hours of planning and preparing for the eventful eve- ning were spent by the juniors. Formal attire was the dress style of the evening. The latest in tuxedos and long stylish gowns could be seen by anyone attending. Shelter played for the dance; when they were playing, everyone enjoyed the music. The prophecy was read by Tammy John- son and the wills by Jeff Turnbull. After-prom was held at the YMCA. There were various activities and plenty of food for all. After Turnbull's Tacos, owned and operated by the one and only Jeff Turnbull. Jeff has invited the class of '76 over for a big celebration. Arriving for a before dinner snack and to help with the prepara- tion of the main course are Doug Johnson, Paul Lee, and Bruce Stone. Doug is in charge of supervision, while Paul gently tears the lettuce, Jeff browns the hamburger, and Bruce cuts the cheese. Jeff's employees are just arriving. John Bell is the official dishwasher, he also printed the invitations for tonights festivities. Amoung the other employees are Dudley McMahon, head chef and the bus boys, Randy West and Rusty West. The waitresses ready to serve you are Jani Blakeman and Donna Laughlin. Oh good, the entertainment is finally arriving. Needless to say Jeff had a little trouble finding talent amoung his classmates, but finally Jeff Hollar and Joe Forester came to the rescue, sometimes you have to settle for less than perfect. Jeff and Joe agreed to bring along their dancing girls at no extra charge. Now who in the class of '76 can dance? Of course, we should have known Pamela Reilly and Amy Wurl are expert belly dancers. The guests are finally arriving. The first to arrive is Mike Meister because Mike is always first at everything. What's this driving up a yellow cab? It's Patty Kapper's cab service. Patty always loved being a chauffer especially in her high school years. Her passenger for tonight is Don Rogers. Here comes Debbie McDermott; she is now work- ing for Capri Studios because they got along so well her senior year. She even brought her camera tonight. Randy Havener and his excellent secretary Linda Wilson just arrived. Randy was recently promoted to supervisor of Dekalb's chicken farm. Rick LeBeanne should be arriving anytime now. It will be interesting to see what hat he's wearing to- night. All of his fellow Dekalber's say his is a head of a thousand hats. Mark Moore couldn't be here tonight because he is busy at school. After four years of college he decided to study a little longer because he wants to start out as an executive. There's Joe Havener. He is now manager of a jewelry store; this comes in handy the way he gives out rings. There's Diana Dunn. It appears she is talking to the entertainment committe. She'd like to play a song for us, but fortunatly there is no piano. Mark Blair is here too. He's trying to get everyone's attention. There's going to be a drinking contest, nothing stronger than coke because no one in the class drinks. The contestants quickly come forward. There's Bruce Cass, Phil Johnson, Rick Davis, and Bill Drabing. It's a close contest, Bruce and Mark are ahead and Mark finally wins. It appears Rick has passed out. Jan Ciotti quickly comes to his aid. She is a regis- tered nurse now. She works in pediatrics because she and the children are on the same level. Jackie Martin couldn't make it tonight, rumor has it she is having a blood transfusion. Dan Skelly and Karen Sheets are just arriving. Dan doesn t walk straight anymore because of having to bend over so much. David Rogers couldn't be with us tonight. Rumor has it that just like in high school he dates older women. Barbara arrives a little late. She has just returned from taking all the little Overlot's to the barber shop. Greg Willis should be along anytime. He is now the head manager at Johnson's Market. Morris Wilson is still employed there too, but just exactly how much work he does is questionable. Janice Rohrig is just now arriving. She returned to the U. S. just a few hours ago after winning a soft- ball to uni ament in Europe. Matt Bula isn't here because he is attending a reunion in Indiana because they do things better. It s time for the meal to begin; here to lead us in praver are Marci Kaylor and Jim Wakelin. Within Ourselves Our future JCies Forty members of the class of 76 attended baccalaureate.
