SUCCESSFUL SENIORS CLASS of '72 The Senior Class Officers for 1971-72 were: President-Debbie Koonce, Vice-President-Janet Roher, Secretary- Annette Leonard, Treasurer-Greg Aydt. During the year the Seniors were looking forward to their class trip when they decided on money-making pro- jects for the year. They held a candy sale where they sold candy bars of almond and chocolate and crunchy chocolate. Right before Christmas they sold Christmas wrapping paper and bows. At all home football games the Seniors sold food and drinks at a concession stand. They held two spaghetti suppers, each receiving a good turnout of people. The class voted to spend four days at Daytona Beach and one day at Disney World. Being under the figure of money set as the cost of the trip, the class continued to work hard for the extra needed funds. Their often heard motto: Daytona or Bust! ! ! 14 CAN YOU FIND THE FOLLOWING SENIORS: Mary Seay Connie Forster Don Pickel Ed Wilson Phil Hayden Phil Blake man Jo Ellyn O'Neill Blinda Batchelder Marilyn Lee Don Sheller Mike Stacey Debbie Shewerd Tim Smith Joan Blair Jared Carroll Greg Aydt Mary Ann Peters Deborah Koonce Annette Leonard Rayeanna Stacey Terry Kapper Janet Roher Cheryl McMahon Karen Cook Tyler Lyon Dian Galloway TIM ALLEN Track I, Football III. We find the classes of 1972 and 1992 gathering for the kick off of the Annual Alumni Football game here at Illiopolis in Smirkey Smut's Stadium, which is owned by Timothy Smith. He has purchased the mud hole from its long-time owner, Tricky Dick. His scrub girl, who never lets him down, dressed in her miniest mini skirt is Dian Galloway. Before the game we find on the field Tim Allen, cutting the grass and keeping it free from weeds. Our announcer from WPKH is Phil Hayden awaiting the arrival of Rever- end Bisbee to sing his own version of The Star Spangled Banner and to bless the crowd with his Holy Water. Lead- ing out the eight-piece orchestra are the baton droppers of long ago, Marilyn Lee and Rayeana Stone twirling their 42's. Looking around the stadium we notice something that looks like a fire at the popcorn stand. Upon checking it our we find Blinda Batchelder with a new Afro hairdo, wearing blazing red hot pants. Dashing out of the locker room in his dainty pink undies is Eddy Wilson with squirt gun in hand to put out his fiancee's fire. By the way, Ed is the number one Fire Chief in all of Illinois. And now struggling onto the field are the Polluted Pirates of yesteryear. Leading the pack is Unpredictable Pickel but it'll be a miracle if he makes it as far as the ten yard line. It's time for the kick off. The front line consists of Unpredictable Pickel, Dangerous Don, Quick Hands Kirk, Leeping Lyon, Jarring Jared, Flacky Phil, King Kapper, Hairy Hawk, Whaling Wildon, Mighty Mike, and not far behind is Chug- along Chuck. The kick off is no good and it's now half-time. The floor show is sponsored by WPKH. Dancing on- to the field come the Double Debs, Debbie Koonce and Debbie Sheward. Their costumes consist of bright yellow dancing shoes. The crowd makes quite a roar, the loudest of all, their teacher of grace, Connie Forster. Other half time entertainment consists of the re-crowning of the Alumni Court, which is Karen Cook, escorted by Gregory Aydt. Karen has been traveling around the country entering queen contests, and she is doing a good job of answer- ing those tricky questions. Greg has taken over J. C. Ross and Sons. Is this a new beginning for Greg and Karen? The second half is about to begin. Strutting onto the field come our alumni cheerleaders, Janet Roher and Mary Ann Peters, with their mirrors in hand. Janet's uniform doesn't fit like it used to, after all, she is carrying HER sixth child. Trailing along behind her is her faithful dog JOE . Mary Ann is standing on the sidelines chomping her gum, with Steno pad and pen in hand, waiting for the ball to come her way. Mary Ann is the executive secre- tary to the leading gum company in Chicago. Dashing onto the field comes the class of 1992 and not far behind we see the Polluted Pirates. The final half is about to begin. The class of '92 kicks off the ball and it is caught by Phil Blakeman who charges to the 10 yard line but he fumbles the ball and it is recovered by the class of '92. The '92's set their play into action, but the '72's blitz was too much for them, and they received a safety for two points. The buzzer rings--the game is over. The class of '72 wins, 2-0. Our friendly announcer, announces that there will be a party held at the Jolly 3's (formally O'Neill's Tavern. ) The owners are Jo Ellen O'Neill, Joni Blair and Cheryl McMahon. They have furnished the booze to celebrate the Polluted Pirates victory. Naturally, Mary Seay is the first to arrive. Mary is now the number one secretary to Walter P. Grady. Chuck Kilhoffer and Mary have a strong relationship since Mary has revealed the mystery of WPG's hidden shoeboxes. Be- hind her we see Annette Leonard. What is she up to these days? She has opened up her own exquisite art studio called Animate with Annette. And pracing in as one big happy family are Smut and his scrub girl, Tim the grass trimmer, WPKH's Kip, Rev. Bisbee, the baton droppers, the red Afro popcorn girl, the floor show girls and their teacher of grace, the alumni queen and her escort Oscar, and our fagged-out cheerleaders (the dog was left be- hind. ) Just to let you know, Joni, Cheryl and Jo are a little tipsy. One by one the players stagger into the party and bid them their personal hello's. The first ones to enter are Jared Carroll and Phil Blakeman. They tell us that they have bought and ENJOYED their Playboy Ranch way up in the hills of Nevada. They make quite an income from their haram of girls. Next in line is Chuck Kilhoffer, but Mary snatched him away. Is there any secrets we should know? But we do know that Chuck owns a Corvette Stringray Manufacturing Company. Chuck is driving his latest model. From here is looks like it has a pink hood, one red door, one purple door, an orange roof, green trunk, yellow interior and paisley print tires. Mike Stacey is the president of the Hay Baling Union of the United States. Who just walked in the door? She sure has long pretty hair. OOPS! It's Gerard Hawkins. He travels the globe competing in world-wide contests. (!?!) Who's the dude with the classy tie? The tie looks like it is made of real money. Could it be? Where could anyone get a tie made of real money? Let's go find out. No wonder, it is Don Sheller! Don is now the proud president of the Illiopolis Farmers State Bank! Tyler Lyon is now married and is the owner of Saks Fifth Avenue in Niantic. Terry Kapper owns a manufac- turing company that produces Kappies. His top three customers are Cheryl McMahon, Joni Blair and Jo Ellen O'Neill. They go to Terry's at night for special fittings. Don Pickel works hard for his money by making pickle vitamins. He spends money for special cases to send to Springfield, Pawnee, Moroa, Pana, and etc. For extra cash he pitches for the Pittsburg Pickels. The last one through the door is the Polluted Pirates quarterback, Kirk Johnson. He is known throughout the state for his great ability to maneuver his hands. We asked why he was so late, and he said he was out collecting money from the parking meters he put in along Snake Road. The gang's all here and the party is rolling along smoothly. Has the class of 1972 succeeded in their goals in the past twenty years. 26 CLASS WILL We, the Senior Class of 1972, being of sound mind, do declare this to be our last Will and Testament. Junior Class The Junior Class began a busy and prosperous year by taking charge of the Homecoming parade. We placed second with our float, Looks Like We'll Dunk'Em, Donut. Our biggest money-making project was the magazine sales in the fall. We sold candy and taffy apples at the football games, and candy at the basketball games. We also had a January bake sale at Rosses'. The Junior-Senior Prom was held at the Hotel Orlando, in Decatur, on May 6. The music was provided by The Mackinaw Valley Boys. Michele McDermott and Vicki Koczwara represented our class as varsity cheerleaders. We would like to thank our sponsors, Mrs. Rice and Mr. Boerngen, for their time and effort. 30 Kim Adams Gail Hagood Mike Hildebrandt Beth Bliler Brenda Cravens Denise Hall Sue Ketchum Ed Bliler Mike Dobrinsky Gloria Hancock Andy Kilhoffer Mike Bruntjen Ernest Foote Maribeth Hartry Vicki Koczwara Cathy Burdzilauskas Becky Bell Mike Carey Rod Gass Gary Havener Diana Laughlin Mark Leonard Bennet Lybarger Michele McDermott Margaret McGee Karen Mendenhall Mitzi Ramsey Linda Ray Micki Rogers Tom Ross Kathy Sheets Brad Stone Bob Sumner Wanda Thomas Debbie Wicker Bill Witts 32 CLASS OF 74 THE SOPHOMORE CLASS In the fall of 1971, we again entered the big white doors of I. President; Debbie Bartels, Secretary; and Vicki Shartzer, Treasurer. Our float—well, let's just skip that. . .We started our year out, as usual, by winning the big prize of fourth. However, we feel There's No Butts About It was an improvement over last year's Victory's Our Bag. We had the usual fun and we're still determined. We have had no money-making projects as yet—but we are planning one (as we hope to get farther than Wabash Park). We would like to thank our good old sponser, Mr. Nieman, and our new sponser, Mr. Blakley, for another year. National Honor Society The National Honor Society began an active year with fourteen members and twelve provisionals. We wish to thank our sponsor, Mr. Boerngen, for his cooperation throughout the year. Our first major project was organizing the White Christmas Program for the high school students and faculty. Entertainment and refreshments were provided. The stu- dents donated food items for the Christmas baskets, which were distributed throughout niiopolis by the American Legion. The National Honor Society also organized The Second Annual Fine Arts Festi- val, which was held the week of March 20 through March 24. Student performances were Monday and Thursday nights. An art and literary display, including work by in- terested adults, was presented Tuesday night. A guest speaker from the Art Department at Millikin University presented an assembly for the high school students Wednesday. Friday was Student Teacher Day. A dance was held that night. Two additional projects that are being planned for this spring include collecting for the Muscular Dystrophy Association, and amending our constitution. Each month a senior member of the National Honor Society is chosen as Student of the Month. At the end of the year a Student of the Year will be chosen. 42 REGULAR MEMBERS LEFT TO RIGHT, ROW ONE: Cathy Burdzilauskas, Don Sheller, Ed Bliler, Greg Aydt. The high school chorus was directed by Mrs. Marilyn Bliler this year and began its acti- vities early in the year by presenting a program for the Womens's Club in October. The chorus continued to display its talents by giving a religious recital in November which consisted of an ensemble and various solos. They provided a few laughs for the entire student body with their White Christmas pro- gram, and continued to entertain the community with a Christmas concert which included the Middle School chorus, and the band as well. Some individual members of the chorus participated in a solo and ensemble contest in February, bringing back four second's and a third. All the chorus members participated in the girl's chorus and mixed chorus in the I. H. S. A. organization contest, and did a fine job. A Spring concert was held in which the chorus sang various songs. This was a fine ending of a very good year for the chorus of Illiopolis High School. 46 CONCERT BAND ROW 1, L. TO R.: K. Sheets, S.
