The class officers were Sandy Blakeman, Pres.; Cheryl Kaylor, Vice Pres.; Judy Sattley, Sec.; Nancy Peters, Treas. The Student Council representatives were Jack Stengel and Cheryl Kaylor. The first big event of the year was Homecoming. The freshman class began to show their originality and ingenuity by winning first place with the homecoming float, Let's Derail Bethany. Soon after, we introduced the Twirp Dance which was actually just a turn turn about affair-girls ask boys. In the late fall the annual yearbook carnival was held-our money-making booth was the Kangaroo Court. King and queen candidates from the freshman class were Eddie Dale and Nancy Peters. Cheerleaders from our class were Sylvia Miller and Mitzi Elliot. Majorettes were Sharee Williams and Judy Sattley. In the fall of 1962 the doors were opened to the fast-rising, quick thinking class of '65 Officers were Jim Kent, Pres.; Linda Hullinger, Vice Pres.; Sylvia Miller, Sec.; Nancy Peters Treas. We began our second fortune by selling school bracelets. Again we took first place with our Homecoming float Lettuce beet 'em . Our treasury also increased when we began selling Christmas Cards-we were giong to be rich or die trying. The last event of the year was a going away party for Mr. Luallen-our class sponsor. Again the Class of '65 entered the Illiopolis High School. Officers were Cheryl Kaylor, Pres.; Nancy Ketcham, Vice Pres.; Linda Febus, Sec.; Johnie Moore, Treas. It was no surprise when we again took first place with our homecoming float We'll Stamp out Dee feet. Plans for the Prom were fast in motion. To increase our treasury we sold magazines, held sock hops, and washed cars. In December we held a class Christmas Party to begin the holidays. In May, all plans for the Prom, which was held at the Abe Lincoln Hotel, had been com- pleted. The theme Roman Holiday was chosen. We had the Limelighters play for us and Mrs. Isaac Loose was the guest speaker. Judy Wright, Senior President welcomed us and Cheryl Kaylor, Junior President read the thank you. The class prophecy was read by Johnie Moore and the senior class will was read by Denzil Howard. An informal party held after the Prom at the bowling alley brought the enjoyable evening to a close. As they say, the last year is the best, and so it was. Class officers were Linda Hullinger, Pres.; Johnie Moore, Vice Pres.; Judy Sattley, Sec.; Jim Kent, Treas. Since we won a sign last year for a 3-year winning float we couldn't imagine loosing this year so guess what— Go-pher a vic-tree the senior class float wins. The homecoming King and Queen can- didates were: Jim Kent, Jqhnie Moore, Bob Scott, Dan Witts, Eddie Dale, Cheryl Kaylor, Nancy Ketcham, Sandy Blakeman, Nancy Peters and Linda Hullinger. The King and Queen of 1965 were Jim Kent and Cheryl Kaylor. The usual money making projects were again undertaken with the help of our sponsor Mr. Geibel. In no time at all Prom rolled around again and we were the guests of the Junior Class. The Theme was- Some Enchanted Evening which it truly was. It was held at the Elks Club in Springfield. The class welcome was read by Richard Hemp, Junior class Pres; received by Linda Hullinger, Senior class Pres; The Prophecy was read by Rita Kapper, and the class will was read by Judy Sattley. Mrs. Isaac Loose was guest speaker and Dave and the Kounts provided entertainment until 11:00. A post-prom party was held at the Illiopolis Bowl. Our class trip was held at the Wagon Wheel, at Rockton Illinois. Mr. Mrs. Geibel and Mr. Mrs. Marlow Ketcham were chaperones. Our glorious holiday lasted 3 days! Honors Night Baccalaureate and Graduation were still ahead of us. Jim Kent read the Valedic- tory address and Linda Hullinger was Salutorian. This page compliments of: Roberts' Dairy Meadowgold Products Sattley's Standard Service Gordy's Cafe Illiopolis Grain Company Class Prophecy It is the year 1989 and the Democratic Integrationist, James Kent, and his running mate and best friend , Martin Luther King, have just won the 1988 presidential election. This inseparable pair have won the rights for the Negroes. Tonight is the Inaugural Ball. Jim has invited all of the members of his graduating class of 65. For entertainment he has staged a wrestling match between, Sandy Blakeman, Women's Heavy Weight Wrestling Champion of 1988 and Jim Wilson, Men's Heavy Weight Wrestling Champion of 1988. Here comes Linda Hullinger, secretary for Governor Wallace and Leader of the Ku Klux Klan. She did such a marvelous job of acting in her Jr. Sr. Play. The last we heard of Gerry Timmons, he was going to Africa to correct the speech imparities of the Ubangi Tribes. Poor Gerry took a left at Leopoldville and ended up In a stew. While walking down the street one day, Roy Stacy was carried off by a big bird. Roy isn't with us tonight. Johnny Moore still wants to buy a farm, marry Judy, and raise little pigs. Judy Sattley—doesn't like pigs. We find Robbie Bower working very hard In Boston Harbor. He is doing his best to learn how to be a doc. Jack Stengel is the Chief Cook at Weber's Brownie Co. Assisting him is Linda Moore who is Head Waitress. She and Jack work hand in hand I Ed Dale is growing mushrooms for Jack's brownies. Assisting Ed, with the farm work, is Nancy Peters. She and Ed have 3 kids and 40,000 acres of mushrooms. Here comes Bob Scott, Drill Sergeant in the U. S. Army. He got his valuable experience leading jumping jacks in Mr. Weber's P.E. Class. His feet were too flat to join the navy. We find the famous love lorn columnist. Penny Howard, giving advice to Judy Sattley. However, she gets most of her problems from a certain Drill Sergeant. Straight from Mayberry comes Cheryl Kaylor and Danny Witts, the Barney Fyfe and Andy Griffith of I.C.H.S. They've come to watch over the ball. Outside we hear a rumble and in steps Jackie Rautbort and her 300 Boy Scouts— - straight from Siberia. Nancy Ketcham, washed-up movie actress, who is now residing in her mansion in her favorite State--that of Confusion, has just wiggled in. Following her is Mike Reynolds, who is her one remaining fan. He is the chauffeur of her silver plated pick-up truck. Race car driver, Linda Febus, has just z-o-o-o-o-m-e-d in driving her Ferrari GT0. She learned her tricks from Mr. Hall's Drivers Ed. Class. Another former classmate, Jean Mifflin, is now a famous dress designer. She designs fur coats for penguins in the Antarctica. Marilyn Dodson, who has become a professional model, has just returned form a fashion show in Paris. She models earrings. She has the cutest ear lobes in the world. Here to decorate is Sue reynolds, who has fulfilled her life's ambition of being a painter. She paints trees and lives in Rainbow Forest. WATCH OUT! Here comes David Hughes zooooming in on his bicycle after delivering his afternoon papers. He is now traveling editor of the Springfield Register. Carol Ramsey will be late. She is still making up back lessons from her Shorthand I class. There is Linda Seay. She is still working away at Smith's Dairy as his favorite dairy maid. John Stahl, who rides the weather balloon for the United States Weather Bureau, predicts nice weather for the ball tonight. He's right—50% of the time. Don Turnbull, better known as, The Fugitive , saunters in. He is one of the few who can elude the F.B.I. We wonder why!!?! KAPPER SPONSOR - MISS ALFORD The Junior Class has been busy planning for the Prom. We sold magazines from the Educational Reader Service, Inc., had a car wash in the fall, and had a coke concession at the Junior High basketball games. We decided to have the Prom on May 1 at the Elk's Club in Springfield. The Juniors were also in charge of the Homecoming parade this year. Our float theme was: We re Fishing for a Whale of a Victory. In December, we purchased our class rings from the Josten Company. We chose crimson and silver as our class colors and a red carnation as our class flower. Our motto is: 1966: The successful conclusion to an eager beginning. The Junior class now has 32 members, having lost three this year. They were Virginia Brown, Margaret Muirhead, and Denzil Scales. Our class representatives in sports were: Rick Hempj Ted Bowers, Laverne Luelling, Keith Johnston, Larry Peters, Fred Horne, Steve Ross, Delmar Bullock, Harold Grossman, Buddy Waugh, and Louis Borkhardt. Varsity cheerleaders from our class were: Debbie Sanner, Rita Kapper, and Becky Baxter. The Junior Class greatly appreciates all the help our sponsor, Miss Alford, has given us throughout the year. Other officers included vice-president- Carl Fieldbinder, treasurer--Bob Kapper, secretary--Susan Hemp, and student council member--Keith Barfield. New blood, which consisted of Jackie Green, Larry Reynolds, and Jim Faulkner, bolstered our number to thirty-three. Our first accomplishment was to build a homecoming float, with the theme We 11 Bury 'Em. This float didn t win anything, although we enjoyed doing it, and learned never to under-estimate the power of freshmen or seniors. We also sold tickets at the homecoming dance. Later, in February, our king and queen representatives for the Valentine s Dance both became king and queen. These were Patty Moore and John Wright. We spent the rest of the year, more or less lazily, getting ready for the hectic junior year coming up. Candid Shots Dig those sexy legs!! I just don’t feel welcome tey! This is the girls restroom! Homecoming 19 6 4 The 1964 Homecoming Festivities began Thursday night with the traditional bonfire held on the school grounds. The pep band played while the students and townfolk gathered around the fire. The symbolic Assumption dummy was then tossed into the fire by members of the football team. After a pep talk by Coach Smalling, the cheerleaders led some school cheers. Then most students proceeded to their class floats to put the fin- ishing touches on what they hoped was the winner. Friday afternoon the annual Homecoming Parade was held. The float winners were announced during the half-time intermission at the football game that night. The Seniors, who had won the trophy the three preceeding years, again won first place. Their theme was Gopher a Victory. The American Legion Trophy went to the Freshmen with their float We Auto Win. The Homecoming festivities came to an end Saturday night with the Homecoming Dance, Moon River. The climax of the evening was the crowning of the king and queen. The retir- ingqueen and attendant, Judy Wright and Larry Casey, crowned Cheryl Kaylor and Jim Kent Homecoming Queen and King for 1964-65. The next week, the Pirates hosted its greatest rival from up the road, Niantic. The Pirates were up high for this game, and were very stubborn in winning a 14 to 6 game. Next the Pirates brought themselves to their homecoming battle with the Assumption Comets. The Comets went home a 19-0 victor. The Pirates then traveled to Maroa. The Trojans capitalized on a Pirate error and won 7 to 0. The Pirates then hosted the Lovington Panthers. The Pirates suffered their season- long third-quarter jinx and got behind 14-0, the game ended with the Panthers winning 14 to 7 The Pirates, by this time getting tired of losing, picked up their spirits to beat the 63 Conference Champions, the Bethany Mustangs, 21 to 7. The next week, the Pirates were defeated 42 to 0 by the Meridian Conference champions of 1964, the Moweaqua Indians. Next came the end and the beginning. In other words, the end of the 1964 season by defeating the Macon Ironmen 20 to 19, and it gave the underclassmen a good outlook for the 1965 football season. C. Hancock, M. Allen, B. Seay, E.
