18 — Football In 1986, the Illinois Valley High School football team made great strides for- ward, both on and off the football field. Off the football field, they learned to believe in themselves and their abilities. They also began to realize that, in many ways, they are the class of the league; the way they play is good clean hard- nosed football. On the field, the team also felt the taste of victory even against some top-notch teams, such as Del Norte with a 29-12 victory. The team finished the season with some tough losses. Their season record was 3 wins and 6 losses. In their last game, the Cougars lost to Henley 7-3. Henley was outplayed by the Cougars in this game in every way but on the score board. All in all, our Cougars can be proud of their performance.
