On the other side, the teachers were very ca- pable all night as they were fired up and scored 42 points. The leading scorer for the faculty was Bob Brickner and the defense was anchored by Rick Polanin, who hit and scratched his way to the senior ball carriers all night. Mitch Elwell quarterbacked the seniors and the seniors TRIED all sorts of new fangled offensive formations under Coach Curt Staker. But, the formations were to no avail as the seniors were overwhelmed by the teachers superior quickness nd organization to the tune of 42-0. Very effective decorations helped to carry out the theme of Swing 1977, Our Side of the Mountain. The Home Ec. Club sponsored the event and provided delicious refreshment to add to the ski rosort atmosphere. The couples danced to the sound of Audience and enjoyed the coronation cerermony of Lynn Witherspoon as Miss Sweetheart of 1977. Other can- didates were Tonya Johnson and Erin Bradley. . After losing the senior-faculty foot- ball game in November, the seniors were out for revenge and they got it! The seniors won 9-4 in an ex- citing floor hockey game played March 23rd. The faculty could only round up seven players with enough courage to face the obviously supe- rior senior-team. The seniors were led by such experienced hockey players as: Mitch Elwell, Mike Rockwell, Curt Hawley, TimTur- pine, and Mike Bolding. The hockey players lead all of the practices and played a major role in the seniors sweet victory. However, the non- hockey players were also a big asset and made up for their lack of experi- ence with hard work and effort. ■ m ' events 19 The Ugly Duckling Mike DeVoss Debbie Dorviller Jana Kehlenbach Mark McClintick Jim McCord Lindsey Rhodenbaugh Mary Jo Wolf The Slander Sandy Billington Lori Fosco Suzanne Rogers Laura Schroeder Steve Sturgeon y n events 22 Cast Teresa Armstrong Martha Arnold Tracey Bean Jenny Brooks Valerie Brown Mike DeVoss Debl Dorviller Marty Ellers Jean Fesler Marge Fix Chuck Flagg Jon Fleming Holly Gllmore Monica Gray Nathan Gray Lorelei Gould Christy Harper Sally Henderson Marianne Herron John Hill Steve Hill Mike Klassen Brian LeMaster Tom LeMaster Becci Lingenfelter Tarn! Most Improved Players, Liz Schmidt and Kris Manns (A) and Patti Lindahl (B) The team cap- tains were Rita Eckstein and Johanna Schmidt (A), and Kristi Lindahl and Shelley Felske. Most of the girls agreed that the team needs more experience and it was an over-all good season. The biggest moment of the whole season was when Sr Eric Kirchner wished the GIRLS' team Good Luck. Freshmen Show Promise The freshmen football team had a rough year in winning only two of their eight games, but five of their losses were be one touchdown or less. Coaches Hott and Polanin were nevertheless proud of their team, and feel these young men have a lot of football talent. The team is antici- pating a successful sophomore season. Fred Geick and Tony Renolett were the team's manag- ers and did a fine job. Stat girls were Kim York and Terri Allen. SCORES IVC 6 CANTON IVC 13 DUNLAP IVC 20 WASHINGTON IVC 8 CENT. The Ghosts played two other excellent games. The Grey Ghosts held the Metamora Redbirds to a 21-13 decision. The Varsity Ghosts also dropped a close 22-12 game to Washington. The A squad was 8-12 while the B squad didn't make it on the win column, ending 0-8. The young Ghosts started the season with almost half the squad without any grade school basketball experience and progressed through the season into some very promising fu- ture varsity players. Our high point of the season was Beating Morton in an overtime game by sinking two freethrows with no time left on the clock. Another fine moment was after being beat by almost 50 points by Richwoods in the early season, the Spooks almost upset Spalding, which had beaten Rich- woods earlier. Valuable experience and growth has helped these young Ghosts become future Grey Ghosts! If anyone would ask the question, What kind of season did the Grey Ghosts have this year? All they woula have to do is look at the outcome of the first game of the season against Richwoods, which I VC won in an exciting overtime finish. The Grey Ghosts would be in contension to win every game of the season! I VC did wind up with 17 victories against only 7 defeats. The success this year was attributed to good tough defense and good balance on offense. Eric Kirchner led all scorers with 454 points, Jim Thornton scored 330, Tony Razo 317, Mike Rushin 232, and Dan Mooney 174 points. The tough de- fense was credited to good pressure by guards Mike Rushin and Tony Razo. They also finished well in four tournaments: 1st at Metamora, 2nd at Princeton, 2nd in the Con- ference, and 1st in the District Tournament which was held at I.V.C. It was a long tough season, and the wrestlers endured hard practices, sweating, dieting, and continuous workouts to put together a fabulous season. The tri-captains were Tom Crothers Crothers, Brian Lauber, and Joe Magee. The senior leadership will be missed, but there are several lettermen returning combined with a very talented Frosh Soph team that won their conference title. Club, the year is filled with other ac- tivities such as: an Easter party for preschoolers, joining in the Home- coming activities, in which they placed First for the best club float, and sponsoring a style show for the Home Economics sewing classes to display what they made during the year. Along with these yearly events, they are also active in doing things for the community and our school. The community events in which they participated in are col- lecting donations for the Heart Fund, and catering to the new office of General Telephone in Rome. To beau- tify our school, the club donated money for landscaping and set up a pie-throw- ing booth and a cake walk in the Stu- dent Council carnival which was held to raise money for the completion of landscapting for the grounds. Keeping the spirits up of our piers during the school year, they sold booster buttons and made banners to show the teams that we were with them all the way. So you see, Home Ec. Club is not just the planning of a formal dance, they are interested in the community, the school, and you. This year marks the second anniversary of jazz at IVCHS. The jazz band has worked long and hard to bring swing and contemporary big band sounds to Chi I licothe. Besides weekly rehearsals, the band had played numerous gigs or performances. The band went to competition at Western Illinois University's Jazz Festivals. They have played for the Band Booster's spaghetti supper, the Winter Carnival, for a pep assembly, and on the Spring Concert. The band also performed on the band tour. The band has not only been busy and dedicated, but they have be- come an integral part of the music curriculum at IVCHS. We don't know how many times we've heard that quote. And there were so many times during our high school years that we could have sworn that the person who said that never went to high school. But now that the year is over, the saying takes on a new meaning. We've all seen and done a lot of new and different things this year. We've seen our athletic teams combine to capture the Heart of III. Conference All Sports trophe. We've seen boys and girls to- gether in the same PE classes. We've planted trees, started petitions, sat in for our rights, and walked out for our beliefs. We've said boodbye to our old school and started all over again at a brand new school, with this years seniors being the first graduating class. We've seen bathrooms with no doors, rooms with no heat, and a gym with no bleachers And most of all, we have made good, strong friendships. We have seen many happy times when we have won together, and have gotten each other through times when we have lost. We have seen times when we have suffered to- gether, worried together, celebrated together, laughed together, and cried together. Being yearbook editors, we have seen frustration, tears, and happiness on the staff this year. We want to deeply thand Mrs. Burgauer, who was a great advisor, and Mollie Borquist, our photogra- pher. Without them this yearbook wouldn't have been possible. We would also like to thank the en- tire yearbook staff for their cooperation throughout the year. Best of luck to Bill Beckner, tri-editor, and next year's staff. We have really enjoyed working on the 76-77 Sequence. We hope that it will bring you many happy memories of THE TIMES OF YOUR LIFE.
