We arrive at the depot and we meet Joe Elliott and Vern Beaumont still hanging around the Santa Fe waiting for a promotion from the position of call boy. Looking around we see Patsy Reifsteck and her little Chicks on their way south to see Daddy. Ac- companying Pat on her journey is none other than Health and Sunshine Green, who isn't going to Texas just for the sunshine. Rose Transfer is picking up the express. It seems as though Jerry is right there in his father's footsteps. The express is a load of fish from the At- lantic Ocean. Rex, president of Kriete's Fish Market, says the Illinois River is getting rather short of fish. While we are still waiting for our train, whom do we see but Janet Beaumont? Janet is working on her M. A. degree at Millikin College and at the same time is taking a post graduate course at Chillicothe High School. Wonder why? Alas and Alack! Here comes a special. On board are the famous Redwings, and who is with them but Barb Mooney, Audrey Stewart, and Joanne Rose. Keep pitchin', gals! On the side of the caboose is a sign reading Jones' Casino owned by the famous Robert Jones Esquire. Behind the bar is George Taylor, best mug slinger this side of Reno. Following close behind the Redwings is a train with the Chicago Bears, featuring Raymond Horton, Bennie Razo, and Russell Draggist. Football, you know! What have we here? It's no one but Dirty Kirby and her goslings with Papa Goose, the Paul Carroll of yesteryear. Our train has arrived, so we're finally on our way We decide to walk through the train and the first car we enter is the sleeper. Whom do we find, but the Rip Van Winkle's, Braasch and Taylor. They haven't changed a bit. Somebody said, Let's eat, so here we go. We enter the car named the Slippery Spoon, owned and operated by Shirley Zierke and featuring the good home cooking of Janet Schaffner, food expert. Looking out of the window, we see Gary Crot- hers and Bob Lewis seeing who can plow the faster. The train is slowing down and we decide to get out for a stretch. As we step down, we are almost bowled over by that famous twosome, TerVeen and Burnett. The girls are trying for the title of the first woman ever to roller skate around the United States. It's time to get on our way again. As we turn toward the train, we run into Big Jack Hammer and his boys, Don Bussell and John Hodson. What are they doing? You've guessed it. Big Jack is running for President (got the idea during his senior year) and the boys are his compaign managers. Barb Osburn is serving as secretary for Big Jack. In comes a train heading for Chicago to a sec- retarial convention. On board are Patty Adams and Rachel Ramos, still like two peas in a pod. Here we go again. Scurrying back to our seats, we bump into the ladies, Shirley Shuppert and Anne Dehart, who have spent all this time becoming re- gistered nurses. Of course, it wouldn't have taken so long if the girls hadn't spent most of their time chasing interns through the corridors. Conductor! Conductor! Well look who's here? The Bill Simpson! Between bowling and going out to Durham's he seems to have time to work on the Santa Fe, too. Bill tells us we're close to Denver. We're going to spend a few days there, where we hear the circus is featuring Ken Boyle, the Human Fly. Just before pulling into the city, we see a form in a barnyard. It appears to be Barb Sturgeon. Wonder how Barb likes milking cows? There's so much time to kill, let's qo to the stock car races. The main feature is a 1937 Ford Coupe with a blue top owned and operated by Hari Kari Kehlenbach. Who's this strutting up the street, Why it's Nancee Pressler. She's looking for the man of her dreams. We then approach a movie theater and find the manager is Harrv Kerasotes Crull. He learned the trade earlv. Who's that pounding on the type- writer in Mr. Crull's office? Why, it is Mary Gas- way, the efficient secretary. The movie stars Bob Detmer with his trumpet and Patty Bender and her dancing shoes. To save hotel expenses we visit the Don Rankin estate. Mrs. Rankin, the former Harriett Foster, en- joys a life of leisure, while governess, Anita Flynn, raises the little Dons to her liking. In the wee hours of the morning we stagger back to our train and come face to face with Diane Coon and Loura Lee Gallup returning from a teach- ers' convention. Of course, much time wasn't spent on the convention. 44 All aboard! Back on the train, we run into Bill Radley. Bill said something went wrong with the plumbing on the train and he was called upon to fix it. We then ask him what he's seen of Jesse Lopez. He said he heard he had ruined his fourth Buick on that old road between Chillicothe and De- Pue. For heaven's sake! That was an awful jolt! Well, if it isn't Mr. Richard Irions. His crew is busy building a bridge across the river. One of the con- tractors is Duane Perry. We struggle back to our seats and almost sit on Lucille Russell. She says she's finally saved up enough money from working at Kroger's all these years to take a vacation. She's going to stop off to see Gladys Lundholm, who is happily married and living on a ranch. Have fun, Lu! By this time we're hungry again. We go into the lunch room and meet Phyllis Adams. She got her experience at Jess Linn's. On the side she's a private secretary for the president of the Santa Fe. Just before pulling into Tucson, we see a form sprawled in the shade. It is none other than Harold Kennington. He is the game warden in these parts, but spends most of his time in the shade. As we cross the California state line, we see Long-Lanky Semtner, who is picking oranqes. Wo hear that Ken is in great demand by the California orange growers since he can reach the tree tops without a ladder. After we arrive in Hollywood, we decide to go sight-seeing. We rent a car from John Kelly's Rent'em and Drive'em Yourself lot. It seems as though John spends more time trying to lure the ladies with that mustache than renting cars. First, we stop to fill John's car up with gas. The gentleman who sells us. gas is none other than Ken Sarver, who is in business for himself. As we pass Hollywood and Vine, we see prop- ped up against a lamp post, and rolling those eyes at the opposite sex - the same old Mick Sarver. Passing by a movie studio, we see Wanda Oo- la-la McWilliams, who is said to be the only stand- in in the world for Jimmy Durante. We understand that Anna Duckworth is work- ing in the same studio as a dressmaker. Why, there's Dot Bartolomeo, Jean Even, and Virginia Montonye standing on the wharf waiting for their ship to come in. Jack Romeo Harney is there, too, waving good- bye to Nancy. You know what they say about sail- ors, 'A gal in every port.' We stop at a cafeteria and there is Leona Ruh- lander waiting to help us. And sitting quietly in a corner looking the situ- ation over is Mr. Roger Downey. On we go past an attractive bowling alley. Pulling out in his Cadillac is head pin boy, Don Wright. It seems as though our vacation has come to an end, so we head back to the station to buy our tick- ets for our trip home. Bye, now. 45 SUNDAY EVENING, MAY 25, 1952 Eight o’Clock Program Processional, “Pomp and Circumstance”_____________________________Elgar LYNN HORTON Invocation--------------------------------The Reverend D. This year the Grey Ghosts had a very good season and looked bad in only one meet, which they lost to highly talented Peoria Woodruff. Chilli met Woodruff again in the district and finished second in a field of about thirty schools including the Peoria schools. Our thinclads did well in the Geneseo Day and Night Relays, finishing first and second respectively. The Ghosts grabbed first place honors in a dual meet with Central and in the Galava Relays, and finished fourth in the Normal Relays. The Ghosts' greatest triumph came though, when they won the Illio Conference meet held under the lights in Chillicothe. In this meet, Chilli showed their greatness by establishing three new records. Irions broke the pole vault record with a vault of 11'3 . Don and Bob Sibrel set new records in the shot ond discus. All of us here at Chilli High should be very proud of our 1952 track squad. 120 DON WRIGHT BOB JONES RUSSELL DRAGGIST CHUCK PREDMORE HAROLD UPP RICHARD HENSON LYNN BRIDGMAN DON SIBREL FRANK STURM LEROY GRISWOLD 121 SHERM WORRICK BOB SIBREL JOE BROWN DICK MERCER CLIFF DUCKWORTH DICK IRIONS KEN BOYLE BOB LEWIS FROSH RELAY JERRY ROSE VARSITY RELAY BASEBALL ® Chilli 9 Morton 4 Chilli 5 Tremont 5 Chilli 13 Dunlap 4 Chilli 3 Washington 8 Chilli 6 Metamora 4 Chilli 3 Farmington 4 Chilli 4 DISTRICT Tremont 9 Chilli 3 Dunlap 2 Chilli 4 Spaulding 11 123 KENNY BOYLE JOHN KELLY DICK STURGEON 124 125 126 J i i I i i i r 129 vt $, 136 Index Seniors, Page 46 LEFT TO RIGHT FROM FRONT Dehart, Anne Green, Nancy Conkey, John Russell. We hope that we have been successful enough so that you will like this yearbook. It was only through the efforts and co-operat- ion of the entire staff that the yearbook was completed. We, the yearbook staff and the senior class, would like each student to feel that the yearbook was for him, rather than for the seniors only. Since no mention has been made of the vari- ous jobs done by the regular staff members, I would like to make mention of them now. Since there were a number who came to the yearbook meetings once or twice and contribut- ed a great deal to the success of the book, I would like to thank these people, too. And, last but not least, I would like to say, thank you a million, Mr. Parvin, who worked tirelessly taking pictures, developing pictures, and helping the rest of us to do the work that was to be done.
