Dedication Since graduating as an optometrist from North- ern Illinois College of Optometry in 1946, Dr. Roy Teshima has dedicated himself to the profession of Optometry. Spanning four decades, Dr. Teshima has worn the many different hats of his profession. As a private practitioner, as a clinical and academic instructor, as divisional chairman, and as a member of the National Board of Examiners in Optometry, he has been an example of leadership and profes- sionalism in optometry. Dr. Teshima has his roots deep in the earth of his profession and is admired by the administration, faculty, and students alike. To many he is Optom- etry at ICO. Therefore, as he has dedicated himself to his patients, his school, and his profession, we in turn dedicate this 1985 edition of Insights to Dr. Roy Teshima, Professor of Optometry. .! David A. Greenberg, O.D., M.P.H. Vice President for Academic AffairsfDean Since you came to the Illinois College of Optom- etry, there have been more changes occurring than in the previous thirty years. l am pleased to have had the privilege of being here during that time and l compliment you on your patience and understand- ing. Our objectives during your last year are to improve the curriculum, to ha ve better intern exper- ience in the Clinic, and to provide optimum patient care . . all of which should help better prepare you for professional practice. Hopefully, as your profes- sional life develops, you will understand why all of the changes at the lllinois College of Optometry are in the interest of meeting the needs of a changing profession, and also to address the philosophy of full-scope optometry. We will continue to imple- ment the changes at lCO in the best interest of the institution, education, and patient care. Best wishes to you in your endeavors. lt is my hope that you will leave with an allegiance to your Alma Mater and also to your state and national associations and the profession. The endless changes in administration, policies, and facultyg and the endless sea of memo's which seemed to flow from our mail boxes will all be in the backs of our minds. What I 'm sure you 'll remember will be the familiar faces of our classmates and friendsg those who made these four years here at ICO special. To the classes we sometimes went to, to the parties we never missed, and to the clinic we always seemed to be checking out of this book is special, as are the memories it creates. We wish you all the very best in your future endevours and thank you for all the good times we shared. Take Care, Hins 8: Hick 9 has 'TY A i 1 4 1 Thomas A. Akers IL O.D. This past year has truly challanged us, but has also taught us many skills needed to become professional Optom- etrists. Our class has grown not only in knowledge but also in strength. A year ago we were thrown together in a new situation, all with one common goal in mind ,.... to become future Doctors of Optometry. Today we still desire that goal, but have grown together, helped each other and built bonds of friendship we will never forget. Next year as we enter the clinic we will be able to apply this knowledge and prove that we as a class can make Hne doctors and help to better this growing field of Optometry. V , Mi, ' The year 1984-85 for the Third Year Class can be summa- rized in one phrase: Dreams Become Reality. The fulhll- ment of lifelong dreams has been shown to us in many ways this past year, most memorably at the Winter and Summer Olympics, where many aspired to be the best and few suc- ceeded in the task. We ha ve seen the Chicago Cubs and Bears persevere to be league champions and have shared their triumphs and defeats. Here at ICO, the dreams of many have been realized. In the completion of a new and magnincent library and the near completion of a lecture hall and sports facility. Within the Third Year Class, we have made the dream of hosting an AOSA National Congress a reality for 1986, with hopes to provide Insight Into Eyesight. For many who have come to ICO to become optometrists, their dream has been partially fulhlled as interns in the Eye Clinic.-,The respon- sibility to provide the best vision care has been awesome, but the rewards beyond measure. We share the hopes and dreams of ICO and wish the graduating Class of 1985 success and happiness in all their personal and professional endeavors.
