l i l l P ' fl H ms ' 37, Z if-'K' 'l it Present, Future Growth Concerns College Board The Illinois Central College Board, as the main governing body, was active this year in carrying out plans for expansion of the present college facilities, including changes to existing buildings and construction of new ones. When plans were interrupted by the state's freeze on building funds, the Board revised original proposals in anticipation of receiving an increased allotment to allow for more con- struction during the first phase of permanent buildings. Among the regular duties of the Board was the approval of new faculty appointments to accommodate the increased enrollment of 1,500 more students in September and the es- tablishment of a new salary schedule to at- tract high caliber instructors. College Board members are Zealy M. Holmes, Robert S Gorham Dr Donald W. Wilcox, Stanley J. Hodel, Vice President Mrs. Dorothy Herm President Dr John E. Dalton and Carter E. Hewitt. Administration 0pens New Opportunity Doors The administration, through cooperation in an educational environment, strives to open the doors ot opportunity and provide ample facilities for students. In times like this it is even more important to have an administra- tion whose philosophies and obiectives are dedicated to individual growth. We live in a decade of unrest for young people. We read of college protests, the war and of tragedies in our nation's cities. We find ourselves anxious about these things, but there is reason for hope, too, for we read of new academic communities built on student ideals, achieve- ments in space and science programs and presidential elections where people can exer- cise their highest democratic privileges. Young minds absorb the things in the world about them and need a well-rounded educational environment to develop the world within themselves.

J 11-4' Dr. Edwards Builds College as President The college's image and development are reflections of its president, and Illinois Cen- tral's growth from 2,500 to 4,000 students and its reputation throughout the state are attributed to President Kenneth L. Edwards. Being president involves a unique ad- ministrative personality. He must be able to articulate college needs to the Board and to the community, and he must be an outgoing person, able to get along with administrators, faculty and students. Forseeing problems and evaluating and reevaluating college programs are two very important tasks that a presi- dent accepts. ' Dr. Edwards keeps aware of changing programs by Mrs. Joyce Paluska and Dr. Edwards discuss the ,visiting classes. day's activities.
