Undefeated Al's Rebels Wins Cage Crown Intramural sports, a year late getting off the ground, attracted many students interested in satisfying their competitive needs. Under the direction of physical education instructors Max Mayes and Lorene Ramsey and a student Intramural Board, programs sprang up in basketball, golf, volleyball, bowling, tennis and softball. Participation was greatest in basketball, where I8 teams in 3 leagues squared off in facilities at the Peoria YWCA to determine an overall college champion. Al's Rebels, representing the Big 8 Confer- ence and the only team to whip a strong faculty entrant, showed great balance to fin- ish 5-O and win the title. Bali Hai, the Missouri Valley leaders, which had a five-game streak going into the closing week, lost its last two games, including a loss to the Rebels in the final game, to finish sec- ond with ci 5-2 record. The Mecca Minors won the Ivy League crown, but lost to Bali Hai in the Playoffs. Dave Blayney and Brad Powers, forwards on Bali Hai, finished first and second among individual scorers. fiik Q, ...f5i,-asf. 4 .fig .' ' NH' , xt . ,,.. , s W I T imm. 'ii J. Ch. 3 -W'ii.--.,,..- .
