Having marked his ballot for the mock election, Alan Cooksey heads for the ballot box. 1968 Was Year for Campaigning Whether students were running for Student Senate or campaigning for their favorite po- litical candidate, they tried to keep the man of their choice before the voters by passing out buttons and literature, making speeches and plastering posters on almost everything on campus. The candidates themselves met the people and discussed the issues in hopes that the voters would cast votes in their favor. Sophomore Herb Eeaton supports his candidate for Student Senate by helping Freshman Pam Tate erect her unique sign. ,ln -1 l, 4 i . . 'ni' James Hatcher, Democratic candidate for Congress, presents his views to students during last week of campaigning.

Students celebrate the end of registration by doing their thing at the first iam session of the year. Reactions of these students varied as they received their identification cards. 4,016 Students Register for Fall Semester September registration meant many things to students. lt was a time of waiting in lines to get forms and schedules, pay fees, receive identification cards and buy books. It was also a time when students memorized their Social Security numbers. Freshmen recognized regis- tration as the beginning of a new social and educational life. For returning sophomores, it was one step closer to graduation. For all, though, it was an exciting experience that could be anticipated again in January.

As in any election, an unusual sign is an effective method of campaigning. Vice-President Hubert Humphrey enioys shaking hands with anxious Peoria area followers.
