GIGFS PA GE Miss Gisela Schroder has been Foreign Exchange Student to Ilion High School this year, because of the untiring effort of our Student Council. Gigi, as she likes to be called, came to us from Gottingen, Germany, where she left her mother, father, and a sister. In Ilion Gigi stayed with Mr. and Mrs. Forbes Mutch- ler, and their son, john, daughter, Elaine, and dog, Tina.. Gigi had nothing but nice things to say about her second family. During her stay in Ilion, Gigi took American History, English Literature, English Composition, and Math II. Many people have heard her talk of making math instead of just doing it. She sang with the Orpheus Choir and the Belles in the second semester. Gigi reported for the Quill in her monthly column, Gigi Gabsf' Since she plans a ca- reer in photography, Gigi assisted the photography editor of the Mirror. Perhaps you saw her around the school building with her camera. Gigi also enjoys art and music. She enjoys Dave Brubeck's modern jazz, and even Tschaikowsky. Gigi not only listens to music, she is quite talented with a guitar. Many seniors will remember the times when they joined in a Sing Along with Gigi get together. Gigi brought to the girls the realization that hair doesn't have to be rolled every night. Gigi hardly ever rolls her hair. She wears it either teased or straight. Concerning styles, she reported that German girls seldom wear sneakers and are ac- customed to short shorts instead of berrnudas. She startled us by saying that girls could wear slacks to school. Something she noticed that was missing was the bikini bathing suit. German girls wear little make-up, according' to Gigi. . We will remember her sparkling laugh, bright smile, unfamiliar accent, and her say- ings. Gigi reminded us to try to make the best of it because, as she says, Everything counts a lot. All Ilion students who came in contact with Gigi this year will remember her as one of the friendliest persons I.H.S. has ever known. 4-9
