BASKETBALL - Bombers Gaim Q an. 5, 1962-Feb. 23, 1962 I Ilion's Bombers, playing almost the entire game without the services of Willey, lost their first encounter with Herkimer, 60-43. Jack Brewer netted 16 points in a losing cause for Ilion, while Jack Folts and Jerry Walczak sparked Herkimer with 13 points apiece. Ilion was to gain revenge, however. On Febru- ary 23, the Gold and Brown triumphed at Herki- mer, 63-52, Jim Willey hit 23 for Ilion, and Jack Brewer and Doug Bernard managed 29 between them. Levi was high for Herkimer with 9 points. With the chips down and the Section III Inter- Area title at stake, once again Ilion emerged vic- torious. At U.F.A., Ilion's quintet whipped the Magicans, 59-43. Brewer and Deyle had 18 and 16 points respectively. Levi hit 10 for Herkimer and Joe Cassella added 9, but Ilion brought home the title. WRESTLING - Wim 2111. WI TER SPORTS Feb. 17, 1962 Ilionis winter sports teams did very well against Herkimer in 1961-62. The volleyball, table tennis, and bowling teams all scored victories in the regular season's matches. In the post season league tournament, once again the volleyball team was victorious, winning one game, 15-0, and dropping another, 15-14. The bowling and badminton teams were less for- tunate, but Glenn Bush and Bob Clive whipped their Herkimer opponents in the table tennis doubles. 95 4, 1962 Ilion's wrestling team narrowly edged Herkimer, 26-20, on January 4, 1962. Wes Lints and Vic Tjeerdsma turned in necessary pins over Terry Coughlin and Gene Campagna to wrap up the match for the visiting Ilion Bombers. Bob Dunckel, Dick Adams, and Dexter Smith also turned in important wins for Ilion. In the post season tournament, the Magicians finished second and Ilion third. In the finals of the unlimited class, Gino', Campagna gained revenge over Vic Tjeerdsma when the Ilion star received a head injury. 1 u

BASEB LL - D019 Dogs Momma May 15, 1961-june 3 Ilion's two meetings with Herkimer on the base- ball diamond in 1961 proved disasterous for the Ilionites. In the First meeting at Ilion, Herkimer's Dave Schad blanked the Bombers on 3 hits, 6--0. Jim Levi knocked in two of Herkimer's runs with a booming homerun, and Schad aided his own cause with a pair of doubles. TRACK - ' 1961 In the second meeting, under the lights at Herkimer, the Bombers jumped into a quick lead, and, going into the bottom of the fourth, the score was tied, 3-3. However, Ed Woodrick ran into trouble, giving up a grand slam to Herkimer's Zenon Lischynski, and the Bombers were out of it. Schad, again, got the win. 1311664115 May 26, 1961 Ilion's track team lost its only meet of the year to the League champions, Herkimer, 56-50, in the 1961 season. The Magicans posted victories in the high jump fTom Canastarj and shot put fRod Sluyterj, while Ilion easily won the mile fTerry Sweeneyl and the pole vault fBob Dunckelj.
