Sweeney, McGrath, Morris Rapenske, Morris, Tresohlavyg SECOND ROW: T Sweeney, Haggerty, Lyman, Tjeerdsma, Murray, Dunckel, Kelly, Tibbits, Pierce, THIRD ROW: Mc- J Grath, Slocum, Hoffman, Ross, Holden, Lints, Coyle, Adams, Snedekerg FOURTH ROW: Burch, Gregg, Thomas, Shelley, Willey, Bouck, Rose, Keddell, Reid. Cross Country Sorge, compiled an excellent record in 1961. The squad defeated Oneonta and twice whipped Herk- imer's Green Magicians for important victories. The harriers from Ilion also won the Cobleskill Invitational Tournament with sophomore sensa- tion, Terry Sweeney, setting a new record for the course. As a climax to the season, the Bomber squad copped the Section III Class A Championship, with Sweeney once again finishing first and setting another record. The squad included Nowacki, Hall, Rapenske, T. Sweeney, Willey, Morris, Weiss, Streeter, Dodge, Getrnan, Sweeney, Watts, Slocum, Keddell, Spencer, and Burkhart. 101

Wrestling 1962 FRONT ROW: Dunckel, Matthews, Adamsg SECOND ROW: Yule, Moore, Gogolg THIRD ROW: Smith, Burch, Tjeerdsma, Heneka, Lints. Ihons Golden Bomber Wrestling Squad, under new coach, Mr. Orthman, completely reversed a l-9 season of 1960-61 and Hnished second in the Iroquois League. The Ilion Grapplers racked up 7 stmight wins before bowing to Frankfort, the league champion, 24--21. The season saw Ilion win lopsided victo- ries over Van Hornesville Q43-5l, Little Falls Q45-105, and Oneonta Q32-l3j. The Bombers also won the close ones, edging Herkimer 26-20 and Mohawk 30-20. At the season's close, Ilion journeyed to Herki- mer for the league tournament and took third place in the meet. Tom Matthews, Bob Dunckel, and Dick Adams became the champions of the Iroquois League in their respective weight classes. In one of the most exciting matches of the eve- ning, Dick fthe Rockj Adams pinned F1-ankfort's Bennie DiPiazza in the Hrst period. Other members of the squad included: Yule, Moore, Gogol, Smith, Burch, Tjeerdsrna, Heneka, and Lints.

3 1 X 1 S I f XJ 1 gig QQ 7 SH 1 Baseball 1961 FIRST ROW: Woodrick, Bonn, Bonvino, Bracken Weissg SECOND ROW: Brewer, Smith, Ashton, Con: ley, Crossett, Cooke, THIRD ROW: Brown, Guyer, Geragi, Wardle, Kozenewski, Heneka, Mr. Nicolette Ilion's baseball squad, although finishing with a rather dismal 6-9 record in 1961, shows much promise for '62 as the MIRROR goes to press. Coach Nicolette chose Bill Yavornitski to open the season, and 'iYavor'l stopped Little Falls, 9- 2. A week later, Sam Geragi shut out Norwich, 3-O. After losing to Bob Bacon of Mohawk 8-1, the Bombers trampled Frankfort, ll-5 and edged Oneonta, 8-7, in extra innings on a squeeze play Golf 1961 The Ilion Golf Team finished third in the Iroquois League in the 1961 season. This year's schedule is much the same as last year's, but the faces are different. The team was coached by Mr. Lang. Skip Rathbun, Tom Cormia, Tom Bunce, and Ralph Adams have all graduated. One hopeful for Ilion in '62 is Doug Bernard, a sophomore who was also a member of last year's team. Last year, the team had the privilege of playing at such fine courses as the Yahnundasis Golf Club, the Little Falls Country Club, and the Oneida Golf Club. l 102 bringing home Bob Heneka with the winning run. The Ilion nine were then shut out by Herkimer's Dave Schad, 6-0, but bounced back to defeat Little Falls, 9-4. Then, Ilion hit a tailspin, dropping both games of a twin bill to Rome and dropping shut outs at Norwich and Mohawk. Ilion downed Frankfort, 4-1, but lost to Oneonta and Herkimer to close the season.
