HONOR BAND MISS T.E.E.N CONTESTANT Melissa Wright participated in the Miss T.E.E.N. Pageant, which is held in Denver every year. She competed with 85 other girls. In this contest they had to present a two minute speech or talent. Melissa did a puppet play. Melissa said she gained valuable experience from the pageant. She would like to encourage other young ladies to be in a pageant. Cassie Baca, a member of IHS band, will participate in the 1986 Top of the Nation Honor Band. Cassie is really excited about her chance to be a part of an exceptional band. She will have the opportunity to be around people who strive for the best in music and feel it is a vital part of their life. 1985-86 JUNIOR MISS CONTESTANT Marianne Mortensen will be competing in the Colorado State Junior Miss Pageant. When asked what her feelings were about the upcoming pageant, she commmented - Being selected to represent Ignacio High and the community in the Colorado State Junior Miss is really an honor. For the preliminary tryouts the other girls and I were requested to prepare and perform a talent for the judges. We also wrote answers to questions dealing with problems of a national concern and of young people today. W e wrote a little about ourselves. In the state pageant we will be judged in areas such as poise and appearance. creative and performing arts, physical fitness and interview. I have had a real learning experience preparing for this competition and recommend that anyone remotely interested in trying out for it to GO FOR ITU! It has been so much fun getting ready. It is really a rewarding experience. You meet other girls your age, become friends and compete with them for a state honor and an opportunity for a National Honor.

Virgil Taylor competed in State FFA, (Future Farmers of America) agricultural mechanics contest, in Fort Collins, Colorado in October. Fie stayed for three days. He placed second which was only two points under the state champion. Virgil said the main thing he had to do to qualify for state was study. The contest was judged on performance of agricultural mechanics. Virgil won four blue ribbons and one white. In November Virgil went to Kansas City, Missouri, for Nationals. He was there for four days. He didn't place, but said the experience was fun. and he had the pleasure of meeting new people. Virgil said his parents were excited, but Mr. Andrews (the FFA advisor) was more excited then anyone. Virgil received a plaque for state and nationals. Miss Southern Ute 1985-86 Lucinda Cloud was crowned Miss Southern Ute-,September at the Southern Ute Fair. There were two girls who competed for the title. She had to write an essay on why she would like to have the title. She also had to be interviewed with a panel of 5-6 judges. Then she had to perform a talent. Lucinda feels that having the honor of being Miss Southern Ute, she has met many important people, made many new friends, and has had many challenges. 26 Page Sponsored By Stuarts of Durango
