We ended the season with a record of 7 wins and 2 losses with both losses taking place in overtime. The biggest accomplishment of the team was their ability to improve each week of the season. We were a better team after each game. The biggest thrill of the season was beating Aztec 37-14 in the final game of the season. Aztec came into the game as the fourth ranked Triple A team in New Mexico and was heavily favored. 55 Congratulations on a super year! L-R, Coach Garrett, J. Valdez, J. Mina, C. Valdez, J. Robert Olguin strives ' for the finish line. -r- With the new coach Garrett, the Bobcats still ran with pride. Many miles of hills and flat lands didn't stop the Cross-Country from completing their season. The team was young with only one senior, and still produced an unforgettable season. The team placed fourth at both district and state meet. 57 Now Serving: V 0 1 I e y b a 1 I The Varsity team this year was a very talented team with the record of 15 and 4. They put in many hours of hard work at practices. Our three seniors made great captains and set very good examples. Sometimes the girls found it hard to get together but never lost faith in each other. Just like a family, they talked when they felt it was needed and always took out time to help each other as well as supporting the J. V. team. It can be quite an experience to be part of such a special team, knowing each player will be just as excited on the bench as playing on the floor, because of the effort put together to strive for that goal. And when someone says “We did it!”, it gives each player a feeling of satisfaction. The ladies could not have done it without the time, effort, support, caring, and super instructions from Coach Ferguson. Congratulations on such a great year! 58 59 61 J. V. M Joe 64 The boys’ team has worked very hard preparing for each game this season and their efforts have been rewarded seventeen out of eighteen times. It has been one of those seasons when the team has played very well together and as you co-ordinate your efforts better you obtain a high degree of efficiency. Their accomplishments thus far this season are: Champions at the K.C. AAA Tournament and Basin League. Their record is as proficient as any team that Coach Duran has had the pleasure of working with at Ignacio. As we prepare for the district championship against Monte Vista, we want to thank our entire school for their fine support during the school year. Our boys have displayed an outstanding attitude in preparing for Monte. We will represent you to the best of our ability. Coach Duran’s comments: “ am extremely pleased with the progress of our team this year. I have enjoyed working with this fine group of young men. It is my sincere wish that the lessons and experience they have shared this year in our program will serve to help them in the future. ___________ The thrill of victory Up, up, and away Crashing the boards Final moments Scoring on the fastbreak Mr. M.V.P., himself s e t b a 1 1 Tipping off with B a s k e t b a I I VARSITY TEAM 1982-83 was another banner year for the Lady Cats of Ignacio High School. This team with a mixture of seasoned seniors and impressive underclassmen won the San Juan Basin League with an undefeated league record of 10 and 0. The team was ranked in the top 10 for the majority of the year. Finishing the regular season with a 14 and 4 record, the LadyCats qualified for district play-off action which ended with a loss to a fine Centauri team. This team will be remembered for its rugged defense and wide-open exciting play. 66 LADY CATS ....
