Through hard work and determination, we were winners of most homecoming activities. These activities planned by the officers, could not have been possible without the help of our sponsors, Ms. Anderson and Mr. Phillips. 27 Lana Nancy SENIOR CLASS FAVORITES I have really enjoyed my high school years. I wouldn’t trade them for any others. The students that I have had the privilege of being with has made these years what they were. I may have been chosen the favorite of the class, but the class is the favorite of mine. I feel that being class favorite is an honor, but its not being better than anyone. I feel everyone in my senior class should have been elected class favorite because they deserve the title. These four years have gone fast and would like to thank everyone for making them worth while. Greg McClanahan Carmela Quintana 28 hold onto what is good even if it is a handful of dreams; FRIENDS. ... hold onto what you believe even if it is only you who stands up in belief; hold onto what you must do even if it is a long way from here; hold onto life, even when it is easier letting go; hold onto the memories even when we have gone away from each other, for there is you in all good things; we will remember back and think my life was younger and fuller because friends, we lived it together. That’s the definition of a cheerleader. This year in I.H.S. it meant SPIRIT. The squad is composed of 8 varsity and 4 J. V. girls. This summer these girls attended the ASCC (All Star Cheerleading Conference) where they learned; cheers, chants, mounts, and dance routines. They also came back Grand Champions for the second time in a row. These girls have given us more spirit than I.H.S. has seen in a long time. VOLLEYBALL (Vol ley ball)- A game played on a court by two teams who hit a ball before it touches the ground. That 5 the definition of volleyball. At I.H.S. it means hard work, determination, and team work. For some of the girls at I.H.S. it was their last year to play for the Bobcats. For others they will return next year and continue to compete. Each girl on the 1980 team would probably tell you that they had a special team. One that was made up of pride, laughter, and friendship. Tenorio As this was our first year at I.H.S. it was expected for our team to have a more marginal performances. Instead it was found that we have some of the top x-country runners in the state. Victories at Cortez and Bloomfield, as well as, tremendous performances at Durango and Centauri which moved us into the state rankings. Our 3rd place finish at the State Championship proved that earlier successes were not just f looks. Unless things change drastically Ignacio could become a bonified power in X-Country. 63 FOOTBALL IGNACIO VARSITY SCORES Bayfield Us-Opp. 26- 0 Dove Creek 45- 0 Mancos 61- 0 Farmington J. If you think you dare not, you don’t. If you want to win, but you think you can’t, It’s almost certain you won’t. If you think you'll lose, you’ve lost; For out in the world we find Success begins with a person’s will; It’s all in the state of mind. For many a race is lost Ere even a step is run; And many a coward fails For he thinks he could not have won. Think big and your deeds will grow; Think small and you’ll fall behind. Think that you can and you will — It’s all in the state of mind. If you think you're outclassed, you are; You’ve got to think high to rise, You’ve got to be sure of yourself before you can ever win the prize. Kasik, S Frye, R. Lucero, M Quintana, R. Cunfiff, M Frank The 1980-81 Student Council created a pleasant atmosphere for the second year in a row, Homecoming was a complete success. This years Homecoming included field events, talent shows, skits, town cleanup, bonfire, and pep rally, and excellent band (Rage) and to make homecoming complete, a victory over Del Norte. Student Council was able, for the first time, to put on a dance for the winter sports royalty and victory. In addition to these, Student Council has had the responsibility of orgnizing a commitee of Student Council members to select two teenagers of the month for each month. The Teenagers of the nomth are sponsored by the Elks Club. Student Council also completed an eight page Student Council Council Constitution which will be distributed next year along with the Student Body Constitution Because of the lack of funds, Student Council was not able to start on the School Campus Beartification Project, but a proposal has been turned in to the School Board, requesting that funds be provided for the school campus. This is a big boost for next years student council. 105 The 1980-81 student council wishes next years student council much luck. “With the new Student Council Class, your accomplishments will be endless!” NATIONAL HONOR SOCIETY What do the brains of I.H.S. do? They have fun and join the National Honor Society. This year's I.H.S. chapter of N.H.S. was led by President Bud Guffey, Vice-President Mike Foutz, Treasurer Carmela Quintana, and Secretary Lana Westbrook. Our sponsor was Mr. Warren Me Faddin. Concessions and bake sales built our treasury which we spent on an indiction ceremony for new members. The banquet ceremony was held at the Durango Inn. Pins for all members were also purchased with money we raised. We would like to thank our great officers and sponsors for a great year! We've shown I.H.S. that we are not only smart, but wild-n-crazy, also! 106 IGNACIO BOBCATS VARSITY ATHLETES 107 JOURNALISM This years Journalism class has come a long way, we have worked our way up from a mimeographed paper to printing a real newspaper. We put our newspaper copy in the Valley Views and News, and we also have started our own in-school newspaper. We have had many problems and many uphill battles to fight, but all in all it has been a good year. As a class, we have learned many things about gathering information, writing articles, and laying out the paper itself. I, as editor of this paper, hope that next year the class will continue to grow and to be able to produce more, and better papers. This year Wendy Seibert is the newspaper editor. Kendra Valencia is assistant editor of the Valley Views and News and Gayle Williams is assistant editor for the school Cat Courier. Managing editor is Lana Westbrook for both papers. Michille Lucero is Sports Editor. The rest of the staff, of course, provides the necessary back-up and articles. Without the help of all these people, plus a very good teacher, Ms. Anderson, there wouldn't have been any school newspaper. We started out as a spring yearbook but after talking to our advisor. Mr. Cormany. we changed it to a full year yearbook. This yearbook is going to be the best yearbook of all. Shawn Danielson SCIENCE CLUB Science club is designed to get students interested in the Science Fair. Science Fair is a competition where students from all over take their science ideas to be judged by experts. Karen F. placed first in biology, and Susan A. placed third this year at regionals. They have worked on their projects all year to get them ready. r no DRAMA The Drama 1 and 11 classes had two main projects. The Christmas program that was presented at the elementary school was the first one. Drama 11 presented “Rudolph’s Blinker goes on the blink ” with the seniors class members. The Drama I class presented “The Elves and the Shoemaker”and “The Litter I” with all members participating. The second drama project was the smash hit “Happy Haunting” a three-act comedy, which was presented in April. The drama students had to try out for parts and then spend five weeks rehearsing. All cast members agreed that even though the glory was nice, it was hard work, but it was worth it. ill RODEO CLUB FHA FHA: BACK ROW: Carolyn Anderson, Veronica Wells, Todd Pope, Delores Whitehorse, Freida Tully, Mrs. Walker, Joe Velasquez. GRADUATES GRADUATION The time has come when we must part. Our memories are deep at heart, The joys and sorrows seem far away, Yet in our eyes they will always stay, Our friends mean more to us than gold. They stand behind us strong and bold. The years ahead will bring us trials, Its for us to make them all worth while, I hope we all stay the way we are, For our senior class is best by far. Everyone who attended this year’s prom looked very nice. I am very involved in extracurricular activities, and although many girls were deserving of the title of Prom Queen, I am honored to have been selected. I would also like to thank the Junior class for organizing prom this year. KING I think the Junior class did a good job on prom this year. It was a really enjoyable and I feel really privilaged to have been chosen Prom King. I also feel that all through high school nothing has ever gone wrong for me, even when I though someone else deserved the honor, it was awarded to me. Someone else could have been chosen king, in my opinion, but I really appreciate receiving the honor of Prom King. Greg McClanahan 157 Jeanette Quintana Back row. Gjiuck Fo Ohnemus. Kelly Mic 'i z. For months and years we have dreamt our dreams And now is the chance to make them come true. I.H.S., you have helped us to grow. You have helped us to learn and mature. By growing together we have shared A part of us that’ll last forever. We went through our high school years quickly Thinking graduation would never come. But graduation came suddenly Creating the end and the beginning. Now that graduation is over We have our diplomas and tassles. But the most treasured of all remanents Are the memories locked in our hearts. Tina Mestas WE WOULD LIKE TO GIVE THANKS TO THOSE WHO SUPPORTED THE 1980-1981 YEARBOOK. Yucca Blossom McKnights Bros.
