Though it's only just a building Made of concrete and of stone There's more there, between it's walls Than education alone. PORTRAIT OF A PRINCIPAL Picture, if you can, a man whose very existence commands respect, It's not hard when you know our principal who is distinguished from other principals because he is ours. This man possesses a firm voice as well as a firm hand. He is a decisionmaker as well as a darn-good guy. A job like his requires inexhaustible patience. He is patient. He has to be to put up with as much as he does. Looking at him, one is reminded of Teddy Roosevelt. (No, he doesn't really look like him.) Roosevelt's policy was to speak softy and carry a big stick. Well, if one has typical red-blooded American students to watch, one must carry a stick. He is a man whose decisions are imparted with justice and impartiality. He is fair. It's not polite to point, but Mr. Wethington is a person that you'd proudly point to and say, I know him. He's our principal. TO YOU... WE DEDICATE 2 Spilled it! Getting close to Nature There is a time for service ... to compile for all time, a record of the events of IHS, AD 1973. This is the happy duty of the outstanding group of students who comprise the BOBCAT Staff. The Bobcats came back in the last two minutes to pull out the victory on a pass from Rudy Victor to Leonard Neil. As the season progressed the young cats were in high hopes of having a fine season. But, disaster struck on the second and third games and were defeated. The never say die Bobcats reorganized themselves and upset Del Norte in a rain soaked field. This was a big win and the Bobcats season began to make a turn about. They tied Centauri, lost to Sanford and played league Champion Monte Vista to a 14-0 game. Pride was very high now that the Bobcats knew they could play with the best of them. In the final two games against Sargent and Center, the Cats held their opponents to just one first down and won both games 13-6 and 32-0. The Bobcats future look's bright for '73. They only lost two starters and their hopes for going to the play-off are very high even though they finished 4-4-1. 36 BACK ROW: Head Coach, Dan Cholas, Stan Cox, Ronald Simms, Dirk Ross, Mike Wright, Ralph Klusman, Muz Pinnecoose, Drake Monte, George Kelly wood, Wesley Baker, Mike deKay, Curtis Seward, B.F. The season was a rebuilding year for the Bobcats and hopefully we have accomplished that to some degree. There were many fundamentals to be learned plus getting used to a new coaches method of play and discipline. I feel that the players worked with enthusiasm and much dedication and the future will hold its reward for those of us who continue to work throughout the year toward becoming the best players that our ability allows. One of the real assets to the future of our basketball program is the fine outstanding job that Coach Mattox and Coach Scott have done throughout the year with the freshmen and junior varsity teams. I look forward to working with these two fine coaches again this coming year. 40 Lorenzo Biggs, Rudy Victor, Leonard Neil, Timothy Johnson, Brady Ross, Drake Monte, Randy McCoy, Dirk Ross, Mike Dekay, Ernest Pinnecoose, Sandoval Benally, Clayborn Scott.
