THE LEGEND 1973 Reflections of the past, Silhouettes of the future” Published by the Senior Class of Ichabod Crane Central School Valatie, New York Volume XIX As Seniors we see our past reflected in memories and pictures, and also in those indistinct images and secret feelings that will ever stay in our minds as we think of high school days. We remember the routine past, such things as 8:00 to 2:30, the pledge of allegiance, riding on a crowded bus. and sitting on a lonely bench in the office. When we look back at high school, we will also see reflections of the events that were not so routine, the things we always looked forward to: a close game against a bitter rival, the throbbing rhythm of a dance, and our Junior Prom and Senior Ball. Some reflections of the past we find hard to look at. even now. When trag- edy strikes personal friends we some- times wonder if the future will be the same for us. But these reflections are fading into shadows and we must look forward to a happier future. When we think of our silhouettes of the future, we will think of ourselves as individuals. We are moving on from being part of a group of students at ICC. As seniors we can see the future near at hand as we are accepted at colleges and prepare for the life ahead. Whatever our future may bring, we all hope to find peace and happiness in our new life. DEDICATION While the theme of this yearbook is Reflections of the Past, Silhouettes of the Future,” it is the future that most of the Seniors are concerned with now. We can honestly say that our future would not look as bright if we had not known you. It is for these reasons and many more that we, the Class of 1973, do affectionately dedi- cate our Legend to you, Miss Ann Myers. Each year it is the enjoyable duty of the Senior Class to dedicate its yearbook to a member of the faculty that we feel most deserves our recognition for his or her efforts during our high school years. The individual our class has chosen deserves this honor and much more for the guid- ance and friendship she has given to the members of the Senior Class. We consider it both a rare and fortunate experience to come across a teacher who treats her students as individ- uals, an attitude which we respect and admire. When a student faces pressures and problems, you not only devote your time, but show an understanding and trust in us that is rarely equaled. Your interest in us is demonstrated through your participation in our activities, which is always appreciated. Yours is always the first name mentioned when we need an advisor or someone to aid in our numer- ous causes. 4 IN APPRECIATION We wish to express our appreciation to you, Mrs. Mercedes V. Spratt, for the great influence you have had on molding the Senior Class into adults. We all remember with affection how you whipped us into shape as seventh graders, and when we had you again in tenth grade you said we hadn't changed a bit. You will forever remain in our memory as a true friend and dedicated teacher. The Senior Class would like to thank you, Miss Patricia MacDowell. for your many enjoy- able classes and for the smile you never failed to give us whenever we saw you. You will always remain close to our hearts and our thoughts as a person with true wisdom and courage. We again wish to express our sincer- est thanks. 5 LEGEND 1973 STAFF Editor-in-Chief Layout Editor Underclassmen Editor Activities Editor Sports Editor iiucrric Senior Editor 5 1 iLuL Business Editor Typing Editor Xc XhZ O hnu Literary Editor (far (lMjLo a Photography Editor Sufi iKtf((kj Art Editor Advisor Staff: Qa wu Administration MR. Junior Class Officers When the 2:30 bell rings, the school ceases to be a bustle of teachers, books, and students and becomes a forum for extra-curricular activities. While jumping over piles of rubbish swept from classrooms by the janitors, students make their way to such activities as chess club. language club, varsity club, GAC, and newspaper staff. The gym comes alive with sports and cheerleading. The after-school hours are among the favorite reflections of the past to Seniors, as activities have played an impor- tant role in shaping our characters and our ambitions. Stage Crew The importance that ICC students place on athletics and the great involvement we feel toward them is reflected in the excitement and thrill of the spectators. Although many of Ichabod's students participate in sports, we were all spectators at some time. We have all praying for our team. It is this kind of backing, mixed with a great deal of hard work and dedi- cation that drives a team to victory. To any student of Ichabod, sports will be remembered as one of the most enjoyable aspects of our high school years. 'RAKE CENTRAL SCHOOL Okmatm — - —' Varsity Club FIRST ROW: Ed. Tom. Bill. Mike. Al- though we will always remember the years before, the Senior year is the most distinctive and re- warding year of our high school days. It is in this year that we are recognized as the elite of the school with such activities as Senior day, the Senior play, year- book, and many others reserved especially for us. In this year our separate futures seem close at hand as we split up and leave for colleges and jobs all over the country. We will never be truly separate, though, as we have spent most of our lives together and have the common bond of being the CLASS OF '73. VALEDICTORIAN MARY ANN, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Leland Irish of North Chatham, was a semi- finalist in the National Merit Scholarship competition and is a member of the Nation- al Honor Society, the All-County and Area All-State Bands, Girl Scouts, Nassau Com- munity Band, and the Methodist Fellowship. She won the Betty Crocker Homemaker Award and is a volunteer at the Migrant Day Care Center. Mary Ann plans to attend college, ma- joring in science. SALUTATORIAN GARY is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Earl Schermerhorn of Kinderhook. He won the 1973 Bausch and Lomb Science Award and is captain of the varsity golf team, of which he has been a member for four years. Gary has been accepted at Siena College and Villanova University and plans to major in business administration. 80 SENIOR CLASS OFFICERS President—Jean. Treasurer—Peter. Representative-at-Large—Dirk.
