CLASS HISTORY Here they come l That's what the teachers yelled when they saw us trooping up the stairs. Mr. Nephew and Mr. Van Dam were given the privilege of guiding all of us starry-eyed inmates through our first realhigh sc ool year. Roly and Patti were the class leaders at the Martin schools. Our money-makers that year consisted mainly of food, fudge and seed sales. Do you think the Valatians will ever forget gawking at a huge pre- historic skeleton at the Albany Museum? That put a feather in our caps because itwasour first class trip. QAny resemblance to our Senior Trip is purely coincidentalj In the following year, Marge and Tootsie took the gavel at Van Buren and Glynn High. Still in the phase of monkey see, monkey do , we accomplished little except money making which was the same old grind. However, we were beginning to bubble with trouble, especially the Kin- derhookers, who had their firsthayride. For that matter, many had their first in other things QHuh Grace?j. The most exciting things that happened to us that year. was out eighth grade graduationsp all the girls were dressed in white and pastel colors and the boys ln suits. Afterward, the Kinderhookers had a rare time at a picnic while the Glynnites almost had a rare FOODLESS picnic. ln 1952, we became Fresh men and women tool Mr. Acker's commer- ical class gave New York a whirl. . .boy. what funl Roly and the late Gerald Williams used their presidential powers to help make our first class dances successful. As sophomores, we looked forward to our uncertain Senior trip. With Alan and Vaughan leading the herd, we continued making money by having more dances and food sales. Then it happened! We graduated into lchabod Crane Central School. That was the year of all years. Our schoolmaster, Ichabod, fBetter known as Mr. Naboznyj and our school mistress, Katrina, fAlias Miss Davisj began to use more aspirin than usual-a practice they will un- doubtedly continue until June. Our class presidents, Jeanette and Gerald- ine really had their hands fulll First, we sold I.C.C. pins and sweat- shirts and then had two big dances. the most memorable being our Junior Prom on May 6. Usinga Parisian theme, the prom was called the Paris- ian Swirl' and the gym was gaily decorated in red, white and blue. The highlight ofthe evening was the presentation of our royalty. Our kings were Roly and the late Gerald Williams and in their court were. Alan, Todd, Harold and Alan. Our queens were Betty and Tootsie with Grace, Patty Anne., Diane, and Vaughan in their court. The other most important event that year was receiving our shiny I.C.C. rings. Atlast came our Senior year fWe probably acted worse than we did inthe seventh gradegl Oh well, it's only once in a lifetime. Alas, re- member poor Miss ansmann and Mr. Blake at the close of our senior plays. We really pity them. How they ever got the courage to direct 'Charm School' and 'Our Miss Brooks' we 'll never know. Without them, we never could have been successful in presenting our contribution to the theatrical world. We also had a dance and sold I.C.C. necklaces thatyear to help finance our trip to Washington, D.C. Speaking of the trip, wow! Thatwas cool, man-cool We really put on the dogg pick up a phone and then in a few moments, breakfast in bed. That's not allg when people asked where we came from, we made Valatie and Kinderhook sound like fairyland. Fairylandl l The first thing that come to our minds when we hear that word mentioned is the parties we had in our rooms. They were just plain 'out of this world. This my friends has been the history of the class of 1956. In a few days we will be leaving I.C. Central and we will receive our diplomas with pride anda bit of regret. Where else could forty-one kids have so much worrying, headaches and homework? N 2 s . W . ,wg sw 'K M x Hg. a .,.. V . .. , um . in .r K ' ,.....:,: kj,.A.Q.L ,i ,,M. -11:
