'H 'x o y MQUNTAINEER f liei' -LJ ff-' vi V' , Senior Class History 1 'l HREE years and nine months ago a band of happy students started forth on a long y ' 1 and tiresome journey to seek a valuable treasure called, Higher Education. They were placed in a group by themselves although there were many more groups seek- ' ing the same treasure, and none would associate with the poor freshmen, 'cause they were so green. The number of this band was very large but some became tired before the first year's search was up and dropped behind. The rest went plodding on, working and toiling every day so that when they become men and women they will think of the fine chance the one they left behind had if he had come on with us, but too late now, as we had begun to de- velop our bodies both mentally and physically and who could catch us. Some were so very bright, so bright that they found time for recreation and amusement and this meant much for them in every respect. After a very short stay with the pretty green lawns and gardens we again found ourselves wandering up the steps of old Iaeger Hi. This search was not so hard as the first, as we knew more about the lay of the land. This time we were placed with a higher group of 'X A i t , i li i F i people called Sophomores. We liked this name much better than the first for it was not so much like the grass that peeps forth in early spring, but like a tall sun flower in the hot sunshine working like the busy little bees that visit the giant flower, just to think that we i had only two more years to climb the hill. This year several new members joined our band, being from Panther and Bradshaw es- i pecially. Among these being Richard Kennedy and Dorothy Asbury in their little Ford roadster from Bradshaw, and Mildred Gibson and Lessie Blevins, from Panther. On our search this year we visited the Ancients with all their languages and customs which were very hard to understand. But time passes away so soon, and this marked a new 11 j' era in our minds, just to think we were half through. On entering the third expedition of our search, we had the pleasure of initiating 1. Walter Day, from Bradshaw, and hailing to him as one among our band. This year we Were determined to work harder than ever before in the history of our class, taking the hardships the Seniors put on us with a smile, and at the end of the nine months we were classed as the leading class of the school, although we had an old friend that was hard to '- get along with, called Geometry. But that was all right, bright students could do most M .- anything and we went through that town without even running over the red light. ' At last our last yea-r's search is here. Are we pleased? Are we sad? Sometimes both. ! It makes us sad to think that we are leaving all of our old friends, classmates and teachers. i -i-:!I But the loss of us will be our gain and this makes us happy. Several new members were added to our band this year, one from Berwind, one from iiii Welch and one from Chincoteague, Va. These are among the leading members of our band uni which means a successful search for the great treasure, found, in the top story of old Iaeger 1 High, that will be ours as long as we live. 1 1 Our minds are out in the business world doing the great things that we have so often X thought about, and we are not going to let our minds lead us wrong. But we can never for- ' 3 get the days spent with the people of Iaeger Hi, or the grand teachers who spent so much 2 time helping us to reach our goal. So we are through now, have found the treasure and each one is going to make a deposit of his part that old I. H. S. will feel proud of. X i MYRTLE Sco'r'r, '27 Wluxran DAY, '27 , 1 i i iiilii H .ii
