C. Norcom High School . We think that he has a most influential effect on the student body. We feel that he has been guiding students and student ' s parents the right way for many years. And we hope that he will continue to guide students the right way, here at I. C. Norcom for many more years to come . Respectfully , Robin Hurdle We are proud to dedicate this yearbook to Mr. George Wyche, who teaches Mathematics. Mr. Wyche graduated from D. Webster Davis High School and went to Virginia State College from 1946 to 1950. He has a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics and has served in the U.S. Army for years. Mr. Wyche is married and has four children. His work experience includes the Southampton County Training School for 5 years. Athletic Director for 8 years, and he has been a great Mathematics teacher at I. C. Norcom High School for 21 years. We admire Mr. George Wyche for the dedicated service he has given to Norcom and honor him for the outstanding contribution he has made at I. C. Norcom. COMMENTS from NORCOMITES! 1. He treats you like a person and not like a student, also he doesn ' t let you get away with everything. 2. He is a very nice teacher, enjoys joking around, but when he wants you to get your work he means business. 3 He is an outgoing person and is involved in many school activities. He seems to enjoy his work. 4. He not only teaches you about Math in school, but he also teaches you home manners. 5. He ' s hard and knows his stuff, and is a very good man. Helen Dillahunt I I I. C. Norcom High School Is a school of hope, happiness , also joy. We belong together , like a family. We share our secrets and moments of love. Lenora Graham Yvette doesn ' t seem to be paying much attention to what ' s in front of her! A part of one of Norcom ' s better assemblies. Think it ' s about time for Stacy to quit for the day. The most used thing besides the desks and chairs. A busy Greyhound is a happy Greyhound. 1 4 Two of Norcom s prettiest ladies, Robin and Shelly. One of the few times Thomas ever works . GR EYHOUNDS GREYHOUNDS IDEALS Many upper classmen have their own ideas about freshmen. Some good and some bad, but for the most part seniors, juniors, and even sophomores think that the freshmen are different here These ideas come in the form of freshmen. Some are sweet, too many are fresh, not enough are quiet and too many are spirit- shy. . . But they all have POTENTIAL and that s why they are at Norcom! 90 Raiford, S. Ray , D . Redmond, K. Trotter , , T Turner , R. Turner , W. The Freshmen Class of 1980 is the most outstanding group of young people I would like to be associated with. They have the most spirit in the whole school, and we shall still continue to grow stronger. Norcom has very good taste in choosing us, and they shall not regret . The majority of us are more mature then some upper- classmen. We have an outstanding goal to build before we reach our Senior year, and we have to be able to overcome most of the unexpected. Freshmen have spirit in what they do, think, hope, and a progressive way in doing it. Walker, Y. Walton, K. Ware, A. Warren, A. Washington , Vaughan, J. Washington , Watford, A. Watson, A. White, T. REMARKS Teresa Washington; Being a freshman at Norcora is truly an honor for a young person whose is about to embark on trying to make his or her dream come true. Even though nineteen-eighty seems sure a long way to go, but it shall be here before anyone will realize it. Sheila Copeland: To be a freshman here at Norcom means a lot to me because I could not see myself being a freshman at some other high school. Norcom represents tradition experience! They finished with 18 wins and 7 losses and won the Wilson Christmas Tournment The Semi-District Tournament. The Semi-Final game o the District Tournament against Deep Creek and the Championship game against Cradock were two of the most exciting games of the year. Norcom won both games defeating Cradock 75-73. These tournament wins gave NOrcom the District Championship and a Berth in the Eastern Regionals. The first re- gional game played against Bay- side of Virginia Beach at Wilson went into overtime before the Greyhounds pulled out the victory, this moved Norcom to the Semi- Finals of the Regionals at Hamp- ton RD. Coliseum and a game with Maury of Norfolk. This proved BASKETBALL ' wr . ' Mi to be the last game for Norcom as they were defeated 75-b2. The entire varsity squad is to be congratulated for a Jot) well done. Special congratulation, to Steve Edwards for his out- standing defensive efforts, to Brarry Wright for earning Berths on the all District, all Metro and all Regional Teams. To Darryl Ferquson for his fine play making and for being named on the second team all District and honorable mention all Region, to Allen Davenport for being one of the top rebounders in the area. With all but one player returning next year the Greyhounds, with dedication and hard work will be able to look to next year for even a more successful season.
