Norcom High School Portsmouth, Virginia Alma Winborne, Editor Helen Carter, Assistant Editor Advisers Mrs. Shirley F. Coffey Miss Iris N. Cooper Mr. Leroy S. Williams Anyone with bricks, mortar, steady hands, blueprinted plans, and the know-how of a carpenter, can make a building: 4 5 But it takes something more to make that building a living, breathing, laughing, crying, house of Yesterday, Today, Tomorrow . . . 6 7 It takes the injection of life, a wealth of spirit, the peak of awareness, and the thrill of discovery; 8 I 9 A mere building may fling wide all its doors in invitation . . . 10 to respond to the welcome, and it takes the voices of many to shout “WE’RE HERE”! ;| ( 11 We are here, and the pile of bricks is aware of it, for it feels with us as we do what Life demands of us in our own special way. 12 13 When chill winds come, a pile of bricks can be a warm place into which we move ourselves, our thoughts, our arms, our games. 14 15 Then the blood of the many warms, and the carpenter’s creation becomes a feverish beehive of peoplepeoplepeople . . . 16 17 rmimmfi mnmil niiiiii Acting, Reacting, Taking time, pushing time. Putting together, taking apart. Digging deep to find themselves. Flinging life Up, down, left and right, Forcingthe cold stone mansion Into the pulsating frenzy That is WE! US! Edwards 22 A look at the lighter side of being a school principal. !■ Mr. Albert T. Edwards, Principal with his two faithful assistants, Mr. John L, McGriff, and Dr. Vito J. Morlino. 23 Assistant Principals Secretaries Mrs. Edmonds Mrs. Edmonds, Mrs. Wright and Mrs. Perry keep the office in tip top shape even though the phones some- times get discombobulated. No not really. They run the office with great experience and accuracy. Mrs. Edmonds is the lady behind that cheerful and kind voice that we hear every morning for announcements. She holds the position of secretary to the Principal, and she really holds it well. Mrs. Wright is in charge of records and she most definitely comes in handy when someone needs a transcript. She is definitely one of the people that cheers up the office and she is always easy to find, because she always has a smile on her face. Mrs. Perry has the position that many of us would enjoy. She is the book-keeper. She keeps up with all the school funds along with cheering up and brightening up the office. And last but not least, Mrs. Brinkley acts as our guidance secretary. She also is the one that gives you an appointment to see your counselor. She is most definitely a vital necessity to the department. If you are a disbeliever or you just don’t know, pay a visit to the Guidance Office. SOON Mrs. Wright Mrs. Perry Mrs. Brinkley 26 Guidance Mrs. Waters Helping all of us to search in the right direction is the job of the Guidance Department. Mrs. Waters is the head of the department and she really keeps the department in tip top condition, always . . .
