National Honor Society Those students who excel academically are recognized and acclaimed upon their induction into the National Honor Society. Students who are members adopt as their motto: “We belong because we have done. We have not done merely because we belong.” Mrs. N. T. Taliaferro is sponsor. 1968-1969 Inductees (Center) JoAnn Turner, Charles Taylor, and Phyllis Woodard (Bottom, 1-r) were candidates for offices in the Southeastern District National Honor Society. f. The Student Council provides for student participation in school govern- ment in an effort to establish better understanding between the faculty and students. The Council works with the com- munity as well as with the school. In the 1968-1969 school year it was successful in showering the Home for the Aged at Thanksgiving, bringing Christmas cheer to our janitorial staff, collecting one hun- dred twenty-three bags of clothing for Save the Children Federation, and con- tributing SI 36.28 to the Douglas Thomp- son Fund. The Concert Band, seated above, has won for Norcom High School the 13th consecu- tive rating of Superior in Grade VI music in EMstrict 2B of the Virginia Band and Orchestra Directors Association. Twenty-seven members of the Concert Band participated in the All-Regional Band and one member participated in the All-Virginia Band. The Marching Greyhounds Band won First Place in the 1968 Junior Chamber of Commerce Christmas Parade, and two First Place Awards in the Tidewater Automobile Association Safety Parade.
