A Principal Is A Friend One who personifies those qualities of a good friend is our principal, Mr. William E. Waters. Well known for his wit, joc- ularity and witticism, Mr. Waters is a very intellectual and sophisticated man. As a friend to us all, he places the interest of the students first and foremost. His pro- found ambition is to make I.C. Norcom a giant among other schools. Many times as students we do not under- stand the decisions of our principal; how- ever, we should always remember that his decisions are in the best interest of our school. As we journey from day to day, we may stop and ask ourselves what it is like to run a school of over two thousand stu- dents and a faculty of more than a hundred. He is one who places honesty and integ- rity above all else. If we seek advice from him he guides us in the right direction. It is because of Mr. Waters ' gentleness, leadership, humor, understanding and integrity that he has acquired the name of chief from his faculty. A Chief and a Prin- cipal is our friend Mr. Waters. It ' s time to go back to the homeroom. 8

You think it but a rose! You have distinguished yourself as a great teacher in your chosen field of mathe- matics. It all began in the Portsmouth Public School, fondly known as Pepsi Cola Col- lege” in 1919. For thirty-six years, you served as chairman of the Mathematics Department and for forty -four years Secretary-Treasurer of I.C. Norcom. FOR YOUR LOYALTY, YOUR DEDICATION, YOUR DEVOTION TO DUTY AND your inspiring ex- ample to all of us, we proudly dedicate this annual to you. 7

Mr. A. T. Edwards The Assistant Principal Beware the Fury of the patient Man Well-known around Norcom is our Assistant Principal, Mr. A. T. Edwards. As a friend and as assistant principal, he is well-liked. In his capacity as assistant principal, he has always possessed akindness inhis dealing with students and in the performance of his sometimes unpleasant duties. Students who have conferred with him testify to his never ending patience and understanding. He reminds us of the rule and our responsibilities and encourages us to follow the right path . Mr. Edwards is a man who has always had the interest of the students foremost in heart and has been an indispen- sable partner to our principal. In his 16 years as assistant here at I.C. Norcom High his diligence, patience, ability, and remarkable personality have been a model for the stu- dents at Norcom to emulate. He is a servant only to obedience, sincerity, justice, wisdom and friendliness. For those reasons we confer the accolade of great leader on him. 9
