DEDICATION The unforeseen future is a maze of reckonings, crises, failures and tri- umphs . To avoid being lost in the cataclysms of life, the screening gyro- scope of education must be imbedded tenaciously in the mind. As the body develops mentally, this gyroscope will become a part of the individual. However, education is not a fortuity. It is like a tree which must have proper pruning in order to produce fruits of the highest degree. Education begins with the initiative of individuals who have a sincere desire to contribute to the betterment of humanity. In this situation, it is you, the citizens of Portsmouth, who have taken without hesitance the initial step and provided educational facilities for us, the fortu- nate students . You have given us the choice to make our lives richer and fuller. You have also presented us the gyroscope with which to guide us through life ' s rugged course and prevent us from being entrapped by ignorance which is the breeding place of heinous prejudices . It is you who have been pruners of the tree of education. Although a dedication of this yearbook to you is infinitesimal when com- pared to repayment for your zeal and uninhibited succor, we, the students of I. C. Norcom High School, in honor of our Tenth Anniversary, without a scruple, do in all integrity and sincere appreciation, dedicate the 1963 Yearbook, to you, the citizens of Portsmouth, who were concerned and have adequately equipped us for our journey onto the burning sands of life where many a stalwart foot has already dared to tread and sow a seed of hope. 3
