PORTSMOUTH PURUC ! ' ’RARY PORTSMOUTH, VIRGINIA Foreword The Senior Classes of February and June 1952 have enjoyed compiling and presenting memories of our last year spent at Dear Old Norcom High. We are grateful to the Faculty who taught us, to the student body who supported us, and to our Alma Mater who made us what we are. W e regret that we were not privileged to enjoy the beautiful new Norcom High that is to be replete in every sense of the word. Yet we feel proud that we are leaving memories that time cannot efface. W e have worked arduously to make our Annual a great success. Alany of our number have wrought well in outstanding achievements of which we are proud to leave as a heritage to our fellow students. As the present becomes our glorious past, and the future en- dows us with bountiful blessings and manifold successes, we shall peruse the Korcomium just to cherish deeds of our -early careers which served to encourage us to greater height. The song is ended but the melody lingers on. Dedication To ' Dear Old Norcom To you, dear old Norcom High School, we, the graduating classes of 1952, dedicate this book as a token of appreciation for your untiring efforts in pre- paring us to take our place in this fast-moving world. Our motto says, “Success is our destiny”. -Success will be ours, and to you we owe it all. “To us you’ve given a new life, — A hope which will always stay. Determination to stem the strife. And a will to carve our way.” Norcomium Staff Edhor-in-( ' .hiej Associate-Kdkors Business Manager .Idvertising Managers Society Editors Art Editors Barbara C i mil at ion Managers Editors of H it and Humor Athletic Editor Leon McDowell Samuel Eire and Margaret Thromer ERNON ass Carol Jean Green and Anniebelle Hunter Eunice Majette and Leah [oynes Malloy, Assistants — Norman Jones, W ilbert Robinson, Joseph Smith, and Thelma Jones Janies Turner, Delores Hardy AND Leon Chambliss Norman Conway and Audrey Burt Jesse Smith Faculty Advisors of The Norcomium Mrs. Ruth P. He has shown his capability through his expert handling of the crowded conditions of our school. Yes, he has been stern, but his ability to remain stern through these nine years has won the respect and love of the student body. His fearlessness was shown in his persistent effort to acquire adequate school facilities for us which resulted in the construction of the “new Nor- com.” Air. W aters’ philosophy is expressed in this poem. “O God, that men might see a little clearer or judge less harshly those things they cannot see. O (jod ! that men might live a little nearer to each other; then they would be nearer Thee and understand!” Assistant Principal AIr. Albert T. Edwards, B.S., AI.S. “A guide and counsellor when we needed aid, W ith his encouragement, much progress we’ve made.” We, the graduating Seniors, feel that we cannot leave “Dear old Norcom” without expressing our grati- tude to our Assistant Principal, Mr. A. T. Edwards. With his kind encouragement he has helped many of us over difficult obstacles in our school life. W e are leaving now, but we shall always hold the remembrance of his kindness in our minds and hearts. Faculty Members Miss O. Anderson- -A.B., Fisk University Mrs. D. During our five long years with you. We have all had so much fun. That it’s really hard to realize Parting day has come. Dear Xorcom, we are leaving, but ith sadness in our hearts. For our High School days are over As reluctantly we part. W e ' ll hold old Xorcom’s banner So high it ' ll touch the sky; Dear old Xorcom — the time has come We must go — good-bye. Come, let me clutch thee. I have thee not, and yet I see thee still. Art thou not, fatal vision, sensible To feeling as to sight? Or art thou but . ' diploma of the mind, a false creation. Proceeding from the test-oppressed brain? I see thee yet, in form as palpable . ' s that which I desire. d ' hoLi marshal’st me the way that I should go. .And such a prize I’d surely like to have. .
