rrr VALEDICTORIANS a 4 ‘Ae 2 ae Sue Gilbert Deanna Meador Rico Scarfi Kim Patton This year Hyles-Anderson had one of its most unique experiences in its academic history. The 1986 school saw a four-way tie for valedictorian. These students were Sue Gilbert, Deanna Meador, Rico Scarfi and Kim Patton. Because of this, we had quad-valedictorians. This unusual dilemma gave Hyles-Anderson College four valedictorians for 1986. Sue Gilbert received a Bachelor of Science degree with a major in secondary education. Deanna Meador received a Bachelor of Science degree with a major in secondary education. It should be noted that Deanna graduated in just three years. Rico Scarfi received a Bachelor of Science degree with a major in secondary education. Kim Patton received a Bachelor of Science degree with a major in secondary education. Kim also graduated in just three years of study.

Miss Hylander And Mr. Hylander Carolann Yoshida Kevin Albert The outstanding honor bestowed by Hyles-Anderson College is that of Mr. Hylander and Miss Hylander. The two recipients this year have certainly lived lives that have been beyond reproach. These brief summaries of their lives here at Hyles-Anderson will help to give you a picture of two people who are truly dedicated and sold out. We honor Carolann Yoshida and Kevin Albert for this outstanding achievement. Carolann Yoshida is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Hiroski Yoshida of Canoga Park, California. Carolann has been a worker in the “B” junior church ministry of First Baptist church for three years, a worker in the “B” nursery one semester and a worker in the “B” soul winning ministry for three years. Carolann has worked on the same bus route all four years that she has been at Hyles-Anderson College. You will often see Carolann sitting in church with a little bus girl under one arm, and seated next to her a Chicago teenage girl who obviously has found just the right kind of example for a Christian lady. Carolann has maintained a busy schedule while participating in several singing groups for the college including the Hylander Chorale and traveling for the college in a summer tour group. Miss Yoshida received a Bachelor of Science degree majoring in secondary education. She marched summa cum laude. Kevin Albert is the son of Mr. and Mrs. James Albert of Blacksburg, Virginia. He is married to the former Patty Doyle, who was the 1985 Miss Hylander. “Brother Kevin,” as he is known to his many bus kids, has been in the bus ministry for over three years. He has been a bus captain for two years and a division leader for the past year. He has been in the Fishermen’s Club, in the “F” Sunday school ministry, a teacher in Junior I and the superin- tendent of the Junior III “B” department for one year. While in the dorms, Kevin served as a dorm monitor for several years and participated in the intramural sports program. Kevin was called to preach in 1980 at the Southwide Baptist Fellowship. Kevin received his eens of Science degree with a major in pastoral theology. He marched magna cum aude.

, 4 Or SS a A TT TT OTE ISD DOCTOR OF DIVINITY DR. JOSEPH DAVID COMBS The Honorary Doctorate program was a special one to the students of Hyles- Anderson College because of the four men that we honored. One was especially our own. That man was Joe Combs. Dr. Combs has taught at Hyles-Anderson College for 13 years. His insight for Bible teaching has had a major impact on all students who have sat under his tutelage and been willing to learn. It was truly a special night to see Dr. Combs honored by his receiving the Doctor of Divinity degree. Joseph David Combs was saved at nine years of age and called to preach at the age of eleven. After graduating from college, he pastored briefly and then came to the Bible faculty of Hyles-Anderson College. During this time, he has had an exten- sive ministry preaching across America in churches, colleges, and Bible confer- ences. He has a tape club for those who subscribe to his sermons. He has written study guides for many books of the Bible and a Wisdom Manual, which is a collec- tion of writings on Biblical principles. In the coming months, Dr. Combs will be founding a new church near St. Petersburg and Clearwater, Florida. 242 — Graduation
