Mrs. Stephens Cu Camyned Swcethewl ; A very special lady at Hyles-Ander- son College is Mrs. Earlyne Stephens. Mrs. Stephens has been on staff since the first day of Hyles-Anderson Col- lege. In fact, Mrs. Stephens was a part : of the school many months prior to its actually opening its doors. At one of the special girls’ meetings this year, Mrs. Stephens was honored and given her day as queen. Mrs. Stephens received honor from many different admirers, including family, such as her grandson, her co-laborers in the business office, members of her Sunday school class, and the college girls in general. Look at the expression on Mrs. Stephens’ face, and you will see what kind of lady she is. She is truly our campus sweetheart. LADIES’ SPLIT CHAPEL Split chapel is something that occurs on a monthly basis and that has come to have a special meaning for Hyles- Anderson College students. In many ways, its caring spirit echoes the feel- ings of the Dean of Men and the Dean of Women. For the men, special Gospel quartet- like music and hard preaching charac- terize split chapel more than any other one thing. For the ladies, the different themes of each split chapel are aimed at helping a certain area in their lives. Mrs. Evans was usually the special speaker. In the men’s split chapel ser- vices, Dr. Jorgensen and Dean Weaver directed the proceedings. Both of these men became surrogate fathers to many Hyles-Anderson dorm men. Although these were times of scath- ing and sorrow, there were also times of joy and rejoicing. As we reflect back, we can’t help but be thankful for the spe- cial time that is called split chapel. Top left: Mrs. Evans, the Dean of Women, is almost always the speaker for the women’s split chapel. Mrs. Evans’ empathy and concern for each girl is abundantly evident. Top right: The dorm girls watch Mrs. Evans and the lady faculty and staff members show the importance of living the Christian life. Center: Mrs. Evans and Mrs. Moffitt and the lady staff members tell the girls of Hyles-Anderson College that they are loved. Chapel — 141
