The second half of this dedication is for the brave little girl whose life is so familiar to the Hyles-Anderson College family. Leah Carron Helton was born on August 7, 1964. Due to a heart defect at birth, it became necessary for the Heltons to live no more than 20 minutes from a hospital that could treat Leah’s condition. Because of this, the Heltons moved to Kaneohe, Hawaii, where Dr. Max Helton began the Koolau Baptist Church. Hundreds of souls were saved in the next seven years that the Heltons remained in Kaneohe. Since moving to Hammond, Indiana, Leah has undergone two heart surgeries. Her bravery through each battle she has waged for life is a testimony to everyone. To Leah Helton, who has smiled through more storms, warmed more hearts, and inspired more people in twelve short years than anyone else ever could, we dedicate this 1977 Caber. HOW TO MAKE AMERICA BETTER FOR CHRIST By Leah Helton All Christians should be concerned about their country. We could make America better for Christ by being faithful Chris- tians, doing what the Lord has for us, and obeying Him. A big part of this is being soul winners and getting other people liv- ing for the Lord. America really needs good Christian homes and strong soul-winning churches. If we have right homes, we won’t have crime, dope, breaking laws, and disre- spect for authority. So it is very important for children to obey their parents and to work hard and for adults to follow the Bible in running the family. Every girl needs to try hard to be a good soul winner and to grow up to be a good Christian wife and mother. Besides being a good soul winner and being a wonderful Christian husband and dad, boys could be preachers. Some could be evangelists, pastors, assistant pastors, bus directors, or youth directors. You could have a New Testament church like First Baptist and have big Sundays like May 16, 1976. Another way, I think, is to honor our coun- try by singing the national anthem and fighting in the service if you need to. Adults should vote for president or con- gressman and you should try to vote for a Christian man. You might think to yourself that you’re just a little punk and can’t do anything much. But we should do just like Brother Hyles and do what the Lord has for us. Then America would be a lot better!

DEDICATION Ezekiel 22:30 — “And I sought for a man among them, that should make up the hedge, and stand in the gap before Me for the land, that I should not destroy it; but I found none.” God is always looking for men that He may use to call a nation back to Himself. The 1977 Caber is dedicated, in part, to one of these men ... DR. MAX E. HELTON. Dr. Helton was found “standing in the gap” as the missionary-pastor of the Koolau Baptist Church located at the intersection of the Likelike and Kahekili Highways in the Kapunahala subdivision of Kaneohe, Hawaii. In 1972 the Lord led Dr. Helton to Hammond, Indiana, where he now serves as Executive Vice President of Hyles-Anderson College. Dr. Helton’s burden for America has led him to be instrumental in the establishment of over 125 churches in 45 states and 2 provinces in Canada. His life is a constant source of inspiration and encouragement to the entire student body of Hyles-Anderson College. With fond appreciation for all that his life means to the student body of Hyles-Anderson College, we dedicate this 1977 Caber, in part to Dr. Max E. Helton, a man truly “standing in the gap.”
