East Borlorz High School Hyde Park High School, 1950-1958 The Class of 1958 is pleased and honored in dedicating the Blue Book to Miss Marie E. A'Hearn, teacher of History and Government in this school since 1950. Miss A'Hearn is universally loved and admired for her leasing personality and interesting manner of teaching. Her iirmness and fairness in dealing with pupils are well known. Boys as well as girls have found her to be the ideal American teacher. She is active in many extracurricular affairs. The members of the faculty find her a tireless worker on the faculty Hospitality Committee. She has traveled widely through the Americas and finds particular pleasure in touring the Caribbean countries. She has two dogs of rare pedigree, Martini, a Dalmatian, and Sherry, a French Poodle, which in Gallic circles is better known as Cheri. As a hobby Miss A'I-Iearn collects old Wedgwood Jasper ware. The departing Class of 1958 will miss the kindly ways of Miss A'Hearn and her inspiring teaching. We wish her many more years of health, success, and happiness in her work and private life. SWAN Rockport High School Fitchburg Teachers College, B.S. Boston University, M.S. Barton Trade Srhoal, 1924-1932 Hyde Parh High School, 193241958 The Class of 1958 is honored in dedicating this year- book to Mr. Reinhold L. Swan, teacher of Machine Shop in this school since 1932. A teacher since 1924 he has trained generations of boys to take their places in the world of in- dustry, in the armed forces, and in government service. Mr. Swan is Past President of the Greater Boston Chapter of the American Scandinavian Foundation, a nation-wide organization devoted to the interchange of students and trainees between the United States and Iceland, Sweden, Nor- way, Finland, and Denmark. He is also a leader in the cul- tural work and international dealings of the Swedish Council of Massachusetts. He has great interest in travel and photog- raphy and has exercised both hobbies extensively in this country and in Europe. From his wide travels he has collected a formidable library of transparency film pictures which he frequently displays at public gatherings. The pupils in this school, especially those in the Cooper- ative Industrial Department, are greatly indebted to Mr. Swan for his years of devoted teaching and assistance in extra- curricular activities. His students have found him cheerful, helpful in his instruction and firm in his discipline. When the time comes for our Ducky to retire, he will be genuinely missed. We wish him many more years of fruitful and happy activity. MARY E. BARNES High School of Practical Arts Framingham Teachers College, B.Ed. Boston Teachers College, M.Ed. AJrirtar1tAla1zager, 5.5. Foofball. 1957 Coaches Kewpie Kilroy and Jack Buckley continued the use of the Split T formation relying on the quarterbacking of jack Roche and jim McPhillips. When these boys were at their best, the running of our backfield stars, Crawford, Costa, and McPartlan was excellent and many first downs and scores were chalked up for the Hyde Parkers. joe Costa was leading scorer with 37 points followed by joe Crawford with 31. Little joe was missed sadly in the last two games when he was under par due to flu. Paul Shea came back to the squad late in the year after sustaining an ankle fracture in the first game. He gave a good account of himself. Other good backs were johnny Terelak, sensational sopho- more star, jack Durr, Tom Hession, Paul Zaniewski, and Joe Pennacchio. The two regular ends, Bob Moccia and Bob Dean, were as good a pair as the city showed this season. Moccia and Dean were both two-way players and each caught scoring passes. Other ends that aided the cause were joe Anderson, Dick Farrell, Gerry Conklin, Bill LoConte, Charley Campbell, and Dave Mc- Pherson. 'Iack Fitzgerald was a standout on defense and played many positions in the line and backheld. johnny Alexander, who, with Paul Shea, was co-captain, was our offensive center and played heads-up football. The whole squad was downcast, indeed, when he was severely injured in the last game against jamaica Plain. Paul Baker was also a contender for the center spot until Dame Misfortune sent him to the hos- pital with a critical foot injury. Jimmy Giusti Hlled in at times at the center position. Bulwarks of strength at the guard positions were john Uncle Remis and Eddy Parfumorse. These boys played almost every minute of every game and much of the credit for the suc- cess of our backs goes to their ability to open holes in the enemy's line. Other stellar guards were George Wheeler, Big john Wfisniewski, Bob Bryan, and Elliott Rowlands. Three good tackles of almost equal ability were rotated at those positions, Holly Leary, Joe Cibotti, and Richie Gaglio. They were fast and mobile on offense and defense. Hard charging and low hit- ting they stopped many of the best backs in the city. Paul Stefanoni and Paul Skelly also were strong at the tackle spot. Skelly likewise saw service in the backfield on occasion. Managers Bob Howland, Ron Dacko, Bob Scully, and Paul Lens were very helpful at all times. The cheerleaders were never downhearted and kept up a fine brand of organized cheering throughout the season. SCORES Hyde Park 6 .,.,,,.. ........................ Baslrefball This was a building year for the Blue Star basketeers as our winning record was not impressive. A lack ofqreserve strength and injuries kept us from having a more successful year. The spirit of the team was good in spite of a series of punishing blows suffered by the squad. Co-captains Pat O'Rourke and Foster Cass were among the top scorers in the city. They were ably assisted by Bob Holland, Frank Soba, and Donald Higginson. Boys with experience who may help to make a strong squad next year are: John Terelak, Bill LoC0nte, Richard Allendorf, jim Richards, and Bob Ward. The team reached its peak in the second game against East Boston which we won, 77 to 55. The boys improved as the season progressed and made a good showing in the last half-dozen games.
