,,,,f- Ng in fi, ,QM Foreword See the 1957 Blue Book in new format with school life depicted on every page, Formal Seniors, informal school activities, study, play, work, games, clubs, and aftairs in general just as they happen in the breathless rush of the school day. Three years! Why, it seems like three days of crowded life and glorious memories. In this yearbook we have tried to capture the ever- rushing surge of life in a typical American high school. It's in the air we breathe and in the music we dance to. It's exciting and we love it. . t ,W'T'W .i .L Q Wav, i?2mlii'7il W , 1' K 7 W, 'T fvi+.lAH ,:gEi5lf vw ,ef ew ?xxWzW',4 v A .fs-3 X-x Cf! May ideals of Hyde Park High School Be the light that guides your way. May each footstep on the staircase Lead you to success And that golden door swing open With the key of happiness. May all memories be fond ones Remembered time and again. Nisbet, Best, Galvin, Fitzgerald, VUalI. Football 1956 The early season scheduling saw Hyde Park meeting the best teams in the city. Coaches Kewpie Kilroy and jack Buckley worked mightily to get the boys in proper shape physically and mentally to cope with the talented teams that we were called upon to face. In the Jamboree game Latin School prevailed, 6-0, after a determined fight by the Blue Stars. In this contest the passing and running of john Nisbet and jim Delconte kept the purple from relaxing on the field. Mighty South Boston defeated our boys in a spirited contest, 27 to 6. The hard running of Southiels Sheeran made the difference. In our best game of the season, Nisbet, Burke, Bleiler, Delconte, Cadigan, and Sullivan starred to tie our old rivals, East Boston, 12 to 12. The defensive work of Tom Flaherty and Frank Pulera stemmed the Blue and Gold tide time after time. For three quarters the Blue Stars battled a fast Brighton team on even terms but in one quarter the speed and power of Brighton prevailed and the Orange walked off with the honors, 32 to 6. We won our first game against a good Roslindale outfit. On the first play from scrimmage johnny Nisbet threw a pass to Bob Burke that was good for 65 yards and a touchdown. Roslindale stiffened defensively and we could score only once again. Against our third team the Maroon and Gold scored. Final score, 12 to 7. ' Against Charlestown the Parkers played a weird first half leaving the field on the short end of a 26 to 6 score. The second half saw a completely different aggregation as Hyde Park swept Charlestown almost off the field. junior DelConte ran wild scoring two touchdowns and Nisbet passed to Bleiler for a third. If the game had been five minutes longer the Blue Stars would have been victorious. This team has been a second half team all year. In our final game against our -old rival, Jamaica Plain, once again the Blue Stars came from behind and won going away, 19-6. Feeley, Gaglio, and Lydon have been hard charging lines- men and have caused the opposition plenty of trouble. Costa, Shea, and Crawford have been running well on offense. Other good players have been: Best, Moccia, Hansen, Art Nisbet, Armando Conti, Galvin, Remis, Leary, Alexander, and Cibotti. Hockey The skating Blue Stars, as usual, gave a good account of themselves this year and finished second in the District League behind a powerful Charlestown outfit. The boys made the State Tournament and after defeating Woburn bowed before a good Boston Tech team, Coach Ed Murphy did an outstanding job in whipping together a contending team although our boys lacked the weight of many other teams. The following who made the All District team were outstanding for Hyde Park: Captain john Nisbet, Bob Cook, Bill Dunn, and Tom Grattari. joe Best in the nets was one of the best goalies in Boston, proving quick, stubborn, and courageous. Dick Walsh maintained the reputation of his family by playing brilliant hockey all season. Other stars were Hurrell, McPhillips, Hayes, Armour, Petta, Fontaine, Hoey, Amoling, Tintle, Lamb, and Spindler. 33? ta.- MARCIA E. Basketball Close games, injuries, and weakness at the free throw line deprived the Blue Star basketeers of the chance to finish among the District leaders. Coach Plociennik's charges showed steady improvement and in a late game against South Boston our boys played the District Champions to a standstill, losing by the narrowest of margins, 67 to 66. Veteran observers were unanimous in declaring this game to be among the very best ever played in our gym. Bob Burke with 133 points and consistently superb play put himself among the All Time Greats in our basketball history. His versatility was unsurpassed in the whole city. Ken Lydon with 122 poihts showed his class on the rebounds. Dick Feeley, lim Whitey', Walsh, and Pat O'Rourke were stars offensively and defensive- ly. Foster Cass, one of the most improved players in the league, was steady and dependable. Other players who showed to good advantage were Dave Fleming, Nick Rubino, Dick Farrell, Bill Battles, Tom Flaherty, jim DelConte, Frank Soba, and Don Higginson. gnu-we- Hyde Hyde Hyde Hyde Hyde Hyde Hyde Hyde Hyde Hyde Hyde Hyde Hyde ROBERT A.
