FOOTBALL The Black and Blue football team went through a fairly successfil season, winning some fine games at the start and finish of the schedule. Led by the fine running of backs Harold Martell and George Daley, the Blue Stars roared through one of the most thrilling games of the year by upsetting English High school 26-19. Other fine backs who set up the speedy Parkers' backfield were lack Devine, Nick Cibbotti, Dick Iiannetti, and Ioe O'Brien. Also helpful to the team were Bob Fuoco, Bill Mahoney, Leo Conley, Danny Marrama, and Dave Bouvier. Hard fighting Henry Drammis, Paul Caliri, and Ioe Trovato split the center assignments. Captain Bob Campia was the best running and ball carrying guard in the city, a member of the All-Star team for the second year in a row, and a major cog in the H. P. offense and defense. Other good guards were Guy Peznola, Walter Chamberlain, and Phil Sexton. Phil Shute and Iohn Shanks ganged up at the tackle posts to give the op- position a lot of trouble. Other tackles were Russ Hubbard, Bill O'Hare, and Ralph Madsen. Ioe Mattaliano played outstanding football up to the time of his injury in the South Boston game. Ends were Herkie Stevens, Bill Hufnagle, Bill Twerago, Eddie Cardoni, Iim Andreassi, Tom Sprague, and Don Wightman. Al Casciano made one of the most thrilling catches of the year when he was surrounded by three players in the English High school game but managed to leap high in the air to catch a forty yard pass thrown by loe O'Brien and wiggle away 15 yards for a touchdown. The Iunior Varsity was the leading district team until the last five min- utes of the South Boston game when a series of mishaps cost them the title. Leo Trovato led the hard working crew of managers including Smith, Sacco, Anderson, Montgomery, and Hanson. These boys did an outstanding job in taking care of the equipment, water, and many other things. Murphy By the width of an eyelash the Hyde Park pucksters missed winning the Dlstrict title for the third time in a row. Undefeated until the last game we had the misfortune to drop a close match to an up and coming Iamaica Plain team, 2 to 1. All year long Captain Tony Olivieri proved himself one of the best in the city in skating, stick handling and shooting. loe Terrio and George Murray teamed up with Tony to make Hyde Park's first line one of the best in the cir- cuit. Guy Peznola, Don Lockhart, and Don Walsh played excellently on de- fense. Goalie Leo Conley did an outstanding job in the nets as the low scoring count against him shows. Good forwards included Blomstrom, McGrann, Dave O'Hara, Dick O'Hara, Harney and Swiriduk. Hook and Will helped out nicely on defense while Ioe Znotas and Don Peznola spelled Conley in the nets. BASKETBALL Captain Hugh Collins Coach William H. Dugan With competition very keen in the District loop this season Hyde Park finished third, winning 8 and losing 6 in a series of games that were thrilling and closely fought. Captain Red Collins inspired his teammates by his ag- gressive play. Ioe O'Brien played his heart out and showed that he was the most improved player on the squad. Iack Daniels thrilled the crowd with his sensational playing and was high scorer for the year. Hank The Man Drammis kept the team on its toes and was a great morale booster all year. Dave Barry was a shining light both offensively and defensively. Things should look up next year with the return of Daniels, Smith, Trovato, Andreassi, and Sereira.
