Doyle, Miss Agnes K. Brennan, Mr. Morton I-I. Cassidy, and Mr. john S. Donoghue. Within the past two years the school has been honored because these teachers, having attained first places on competitive lists, have been selected to assume higher executive positions in the managing of the Boston schools. The particular position of each of these honored and beloved teachers is listed elsewhere in this dedicatory section. The qualities that endeared them to us when they taught within these walls were the same qualities that secured for them recognition that their services were of superior order and that greater responsibilities should be entrusted to them. We rejoice with them in their new honors and feel that the school can well par- ticipate in their new prestige. We do, indeed, regret the necessity that takes them from us, knowing that their separationfrom us is a distinct loss to the school. However, we know that all things move, nothing stands still, and even as we Seniors depart from the school, we say to them and to all our other teachers, Good bye, good luck, and Godspeed! ANNA M. JL ,,K KQTSA HA Qereuferd In the pages of History . . . . . . the year nineteen hundred and forty-eight brings to a close the cheerful memories of our high school days. There are many things that we would like to set down within the pages of this book, meaningful things that have enriched our formative years here to an immeasurable degree. Both in word and picture shall we keep the memory of these days forever green. We unfold the scenes as they pertain to Faculty, Seniors, Activities and Athletics. On that day, when treasured memories of days gone by and school chums once so dear come .flooding back to weary minds, this yearbook will serve the purpose. It will rekindle the fires of remembrance. Against that day do we hopefully .fashion this yearbook. Although the records show only one win, three ties, and three losses, the Hyde Park gridsters were a more formid- able team on the gridiron than in the record book. Coach John Kewpie Kilroy, leading the team for the first time, had to work under heartbreaking circum- stances. just before the Dedham game Pop Christensen broke a blood vessel in his leg and Captain Mitch Hayes pulled a leg muscle. Pop had to go to the hospital but Hayes reported for the game and played valiantly but to no avail as the over- powering Dedham eleven smothered the Parkers. Other jinx features were the calling back of a tie-breaking touchdown in the Brighton game and a similar bit of misfortune in the Southie game. The backfield which ran fast and furiously consisted of the following players: Mitch Hayes at quarter, Ed Freeman at left half, Pop Christensen at right half, and Paul Fata at tailback with Dacko, White, McMahon, and Frederico. The line, which wasn't too big, but had plenty of punch, had the following players: Tony Cibotti and Jim Walsh at ends with Felix and Leavitt as alternates, at guard were two hard fighting boys, Dom Stracquar- lursi and Chet Molinari with Conte and Hendry also doing a good job, tackles were Jim Buckley, Butch Brady, and Sopho- more Phil Shute. Mr. Center was Elmer Langley who was chosen to play in the All-Star game along with Mitch Hayes. He was ably assisted by Bob Neelon and Nemo Chamberlain. The Jayvees had a good team until injuries started hitting the varsity. Many players were promoted and the result was that they lost the last two games. Despite the bad breaks that hit the team, the spirit and sportsmanship were always there and reflected the excellent leadership of Coach Kilroy. Be- cause of the immense attendance, we have divided the girls into three teams, of which Marion DiMartino, Chickie Walker, and Dolores Cadigan were elected captains. Every Tuesday afternoon the Senior girls meet for badminton and a large group turned out to try their skill and show their ability at this popular sport. Soft ball substitutes for basketball in the spring. The girls enjoy playing this sport taught by Miss Hayes at Ross Field. Friday afternoon was set aside for swimming at the YWCA. Fundamentals of diving were taught, as well as swimming, to all girls who wished to take at this time the opportunity to learn. Senior girls who take part in these activities are Betty Bonarrigo, Dolores Cadigan, Kathleen Hegary, Dottie Cronin, Kathleen McGee, Marion DiMartino, Pat Doyle, and Chickie Walker. The bi-annual demonstration of the physical education program for girls was held in April. All parents present were delighted with the achievements of the girls in this department. We wish to thank Miss Hayes and Miss Blagdon for the untiring effort and patience that they have given us in order that we may have the opportunity to enjoy these sports. l runt 1fUIl.'Il1UCl2l.llU, Jllodis, Cronin, lfzuligzul, Dililartiliu, Vlnlker, l'. l,0llULflIUC, Dewey, Wcsoluwski.
