Sherlock ASS1'SfLl7lf Coach john J. Buckley Coming up with one of its best teams in years, Hyde Park took second honors in the Districts and Finished fifth in the six- teen team City Conference. Coach Sher- lock introduced a single-wing system with many deceptive reverse and forward pass plays. After a slow start the Parkers wi came to life and downed a hard hitting East Boston team, 6 0. Koffske with a 75-yard punt return for a score stole all the honors from All-Scholastic Gene Tee- vens. Brandeis and jamaica were slaught- ered as Shute, Crowley, Koffske, and Fernands scored repeatedly. Trovato, Amara, McDonough, and Monarch were terrific in the line while Bagley, Freeman, Di Santo, Maginnis, and All-Scholastic jack Fernands starred at the wing. There was a tight race for scoring honors among Captain Phinney, jim O'- Brien and Don Leavitt. Szum and Creamer were powers on the defense while Dacko, in his first year made a fine reputation as goalie. The second line was the speedy combination of Walsh, McGrann and Moriarty. Benson, Polvere, and Day filled in splendidly on the defense while Jimmy Surette relieved brilliantly at the nets. 472i The record of this year's track team was only fair. We finished first in one out of the three triangular meets, third in the District Meet, and well down on the list in the Regimental Games. john Crowley surprised a lot of high schoolers when he copped first honors in the Class A-B District 50-yard dash. Consistent place winners throughout the year were John Trovato, joe King, Bill Boggan, Pete Freeman, Mitch Hayes, Bob Perry, Roy Ingram, Bud Kinnear, jimmy Diemer, joe Meere, and Dick Frederico. Other boys who garnered points for the old Black and Blue were Silverman, Galvin, Lipson, Huber, For- sythe, Clark, Samuels, Paine, Mercer, Shanks, McKinnon, Driscoll, and Con- nelly. Captain john Crowley began to click in the latter half of the season and his fine defensive play made Hyde Park look much better in the late games. Sophomores Trovato and Maloney were welcome additions in this year of disappointment. The club missed julie Chamberlaing we hope he's ready next year. Flynn, Mc' Allister, Andonian, Burke, Kealey, Mc, Cormick, Tingos, Molway, Maginnis, and Shea saw much action during the season. VG? During the past year girls' sports have been intensified. Where formerly our program was limited to basketball and badminton, it now includes softball, speed- ball and tennis. Geraldine Brady, our basketball captain, proved she is one of the ablest point-getters in the city in our informal game with Girls Latin School on March 14. The Senior Team won by the impressive score of 45 29. Our tennis team last year, again starring the versatile Gerry Brady, tied for first place in the District Schools. We would like to thank Miss Hayes and Miss O'Neil for their untiring patience and friendliness in trying to mold us into star athletes. So it should very htting be, For us to have a history, The Sophomore class of 43 Started in with you and me, We all came from junior High, Prepared to either do or die. Everyone worked hard to pass, And add to glory for his class. The hrst hard year at last was o'er And we were no longer Sophomore. Our joyful dreams of grandeur burst The name of youngster still was cursed. Of being silly we had our Hll, When the year passed on as all things will. We were advanced to junior rank And deep into study presently sank. Every day found genius burning And we absorbed quite a bit of learning. ofI946 This it seemed was the hardest of years And for our points we had great fears. That long awaited day was here at last, And all our tests we seemed to have passed. And across the nation bugles blared, Congress a state of peace declared. And we became Seniors, magic word. In our conceit we almost purred. We expected a lot of admiration For us, it was the highest station, But sadly enough we didn't get any The Senior class was the same old penny. At last we look forward to our Senior Prom, Which will last until early morn. Soldiers, sailors, civilians too, All will be there with me and you. Graduation night will be starry and clear. On many a cheek we'll find a tear, This will be the night of our hopes and prayers This will be the end of three happy years. Brown, Vinton, Crivellnro, Blomstrom, Fr-rzm-o Military Affairs In the Annual Street Parade of 1945 Hyde Park won third prize. The Band was adjudged second best among the one-regiment schools while the Drum and Bugle Corps won top honors in the same classification. At the Annual Prize Drill held in May 1945 at the Reservation, Company Commander Frank Jurewich led the win- ning company and became Colonel of the high school regiment. Congratulations are in order to Major Edward Burke, Mr. Thomas O'Loughlin and Mr. George Seaburg, facul- ty directors of military affairs. Many of the boys of this graduating class are now in the service but all the boys left in the school will be giving their all to recapture that beautiful white Hag, symbol of first marching honors. Hyde Park won't be the same until the boys return that silken banner to its proper home. lwl Band 1 1 1111 11 1 N Ill' I IX ll' :tt -1 l 1 N :nn mn! r an r lg 1 l 1 mn 11111 Xlurmn Drum and Bugle Corps ex Q 1 1 ul 1 na 1 'Hllu :ml Q rx Nlrelh A 1' el! 1 Surge- me 1 ur urkc 1l 11 N mul luuuzh Y1'1111l If llnl -rl Swnnm-ll.l':nrrull,l1ru -11 ,lulmnsr-n.
