Barbara Bon1f1eld was h1ghly honored by be1ng Sent to G1r1s State where she learned that the funct1ons of government are wonderful to behold Bob Weakly who went to Boys State agrees he s so agreeable that he th1nks State Government 15 just hke County Governrnent only more so and more of lt We st1ll don t be11eve lt and we certa1nly d1dn t know they were g01ng to the stockyards when we honored the Sen1ors of 51 by throwmg a farewell banquet for them Except for one l1ttle he1fer who must be excused because she 1sn t qu1te br1ght we all w1shed we were go1ng along Mr Sommers was toast master and wh1le he was up there mastermg the toast there were tears 1n our eyes We could see all that pr1me beef go1ng to the slaughter and some of us were more sorry for them than we were at see1ng the pr1ce of steak go soar1ng up to n1nety cents a pound After the prom was over the Sen1ors walked down the a1sle and commenced Next day we went out to X C9 the Monahan Ranch for the last day of school p1ck neck Fall came round aga1n and bless my tenderlo1n Q ' we were Sen1ors Dldn t even get the herd mov1ng before 11m Macomber got the hoof1ng south d1sease and dropped out Loree Gardner stampeded up from Broken Bow and f1lled the quota aga1n Bob H1te made Semor pres1dent If he bel1eves 1n th1rd terms he st1ll won t get a chance to prove lt s1nce all he has left to run for now 15 chow Loree Gardner was elected v1ce preS1dent and Helen Dav1s a th1rd termer got her penc1l back from Barbara Bon1f1eld and went to secretary1ng aga1n Barbara Bon1f1eld and JIITI Wheelock xx I allowed as how they knew of a better game than playmng school and to SAW I prove 1t they both up and got marrled janet Coll1nS d1dn t get A marr1ed so she got the treasurer s job of handhng the money 'WWXNKXX Mrs Katherme Fabre rode herd on us t1l1 we sh1pped out LIVE TO LEARN AND LEARN TO LIVE turned up as our class motto and green and wh1te our class colors The Whlte carnat1on 15 the class flower A new bunch got roped 1n when School started and we put the Class of 55 through the paces made them dress up l1ke people Part of our bunch who had a lot of pract1ce throw mg balls through baskets played around 1n the Sand lull Tournament They loped along clear up to Secon place Too much lop1ng had them pooped and Mullen -' went away w1th the ball Took It home w1th them they 7 d1d - . 1 . 1 a i ' 9 Q : I s n , . s I Q . n n 1 ' I u I , 1 a a c Y s , ' ' ' 9 - l ' xl x . a . Dean Marshall busted through the fence and went to Mullen where he swore the pastures were greener One of our bunch sa1d the grass wasn t a b1t greener and to prove lt he remarked that Joanne Albr1ght had come to Hyanms because lt was greener here Woodrow Moran got elected to be pres1dent and Robert Wealky took over the v1ce Helen Davls got to keep on gettmg th1ngs down 1n red and wh1te as secretary and Wayne Macomber got to be treasurer and feel the money for awh1le Ardo Volk took charge of th1ngs to see that nobody got hung up 1n a fence along the way Noth1ng much else happened because noth1ng much ever happens to Sophomores except that they dec1ded they were smarter than the Freshmen As jumors they went around feehng the1r oats once 1n awhrle Nobody has ever f1gured out why jumors l1ke to feel oats We ve all felt them and they don t feel l1ke nothmg but oats and oats don t feel l1ke much of any th1ng that IS worth spendxng t1me feehng ln fact a person can spend a lot of valuable t1me feelmg oats when he could be do1ng somethmg better Surely Bruce johnson got t1red of throw1ng balls at holes and M X went to Kemper lvhhtary Academy at Nevada MISSOUII There he 15 learn1ng how to stand up stra1ght wh1le walk1ng and th1ngs 'X l1ke th1S N th1ng about go west young man so he left Wh1tman and came west to Hyann1s 1n t1me to be a Jl11'110I' too Bob I-hte came here from Greely Colorado because he wanted to get 1n on the bull sl1ng1ng at the rodeos every fall He allowed as how the compet1t1on couldn t be any rougher than lt 15 1n colorful Colorado Hlte came saw and made pres1dent Bob Hungerford worked h1s way up and got a shot at the v1ce pres1dency Barbara l ' Bon1f1eld got the loan of Helen Dav1s penc1l and took over as Secretary his Helen Davls had wr1ter s cramps of the r1ght hoof and sa1d she -live wanted to feel the money for awh1le seemg as how jumors are fx always hoardmg the stuff W' 1 'Es R It was payday 1n the bunkhouse is ' 0 when we put on Aunt Samathy Rules the Roost Everybody was full of glee too because we made so much hay that we re st11l stay1ng up n1ghts try1ng to f1gure out whether to eat lt or spend lt Boys and G1rls County Government Day came around and we learned plenty Part of what we learned was that we don t know anymore about laws or what they re for than the regular off1cerS do mn fact we f1na1ly f1gured that we probably know less . . . . . . - I ,YN . . . , . . - 1 . . S1nce we were unable to make our f1rSt m1ll1on we were work1ng toward our second when we put on the Semor Class play Ar1zona Dude Ranch d1rected by Mr Fabre D1dn t qu1te make the second one e1ther But d1d we worry? Of course not We started work1ng on the th1rd Got loaded up 1n cars on May second and went to Salt Lake C1ty Utah When we got back our legs were bowed and some of our cheeks should have been tanned Reverend Larson had charge of an 1mpress1ve fX Q Baccalaureate serv1ce at the Congregauonal Church S3 sadness of farewell We all got together 1n the show r1ng for the last t1me on May 15 for Commencement exerc1ses Mr Sommers must have been proud of us for he gave away some ach1evement awards and then Dr Howell presented our d1plomas crownxng ,flu an hour of glory at H H S And so f1lled Wlth wonderful memor1es we leave the pen at H H S for that b1g Corral of the adult World ever m1ndful that Commencement means not the end but the beg1nn1ng FlI11S n ll -, il s - I 1 .
