Our annual Armxstnce Day Program mcluded two patr1ot1c fxlms and an address by a natxve of Czechoslovakxa who came from Hastmgs College to tell us of hrs exper 1ences behxnd the Iron Curtam We felt very fortunate to be crtxzens of the Umted States On November 22. we flashed our new class rmgs upon the pubhc eye What a thrxll that was Outstandmg event of the year was Jumor County Government X Day sponsored by the Amencan Legxon and nts Auxxlnary and M XX I I X dxrected by Mrs Wheelock Our troupe was 111 charge of the Chrxstrnas party held ln the gym before vacatxon Our productxon managers served treats and we sang Chrxstmas carols 'QD The new year started out with a flash the bxg flash of Mr ,- Aj Worley s cameras as he took pxctures for a LONGHORN X i X the Class of 1950 had decided to publxsh On January Z7 everyone took time from arduous study to If V attend our 1ce skatmg party Huge bonfzres hghted the lake and gave heat for roastxng wxeners Spmal chxlls and dxgxtal paralysxs beset us as we X competed ln our local typewrxtmg contest Three JM! of us earned a chance to attend the Sandhxll Contest Xd' at Thedford ln March Our Longhorns defeated Dunnmg at the Dxstrzct Tourney and trunmed Woodlake and Comstock at Broken Bow s Regnonal Tourney to earn thexr way to the State Tourney for the third consecutxve year They were halted by I-Izldreth Thexr season closed as usual with a bang up basketball banquet On Apnl 27 we honored the Senxors of 1950 at a farewell banquet usmg an axrplane theme for decoratwns and the toast program Mr Sommers served as toastmaster usmg the word AVIATORS to keynote the speeches Our presxdent recewed the Class Parachute from the Troupe of l950, and several of us were be queathed valu evenxng s enter taxnment wxth a prom and dance fxlm for all the troupe members our productlon managers and parents On May 10 an Honor Convocatxon was held at whlch most of us received an award for some dlstmctron Junior Herr was the only one of our troupe to recewe an Oscar for perfect attendance throughout the year In the fxrst week of May the Troupe of 1950 went 'sneakxng and we d1scovered how lt would feel to be the hlgh and mighty star performers We enjoyed xt xmmensely On May 18 Pat Varner and .Tumor Herr ushered the Troupe of 1950 to thexr fmal per formance at Commencement We recezved our promotxons and became the Semor Stars The followxng day we held a pxcmc and softball tournament as the season s fmale Act IV SENIOR SYNOPSIS Donald Collins left us for Curtns Agncultural School but Don Gray of Whitman jomed us keeping our fmal enrollrnent of exght members xntact We elected Pat Varner president Barbara Evert vxce presxdent Esther Varner secretary John Martxn treasurer and Mr Sommers sponsor We chose TODAY DECIDES 1 TOMORROW as our motto lavendar and whlte as our F N colors, and the gardema 'or our flower We began study D mg our fmal scrxpts Softball was an added attractxon xn the Sandhlll Asso X J' czatxon, and our members played zmportant roles m se curing one hundred per cent vxctorxes mn the games played wzth other towns flx 15 ,f XX ' ' , Q ' . Drama of the Class of 1951 Act I FRESHMAN SYNOPSIS Fourteen talented players orgamzed the Troupe of 1951 of the Hyannls High School an the fall of 1947 electxng the followmg offxcers Junior Herr president Barbara Evert v1ce president Jlm McCray secretary treasurer and Mxss Dora Waterman sponsor The cast also mcluded Lois Carson Georgla Dubry Esther Varner Pat Varner Phyllis Warner Donald Collins Therldean Wrxght John Martm, Learoy Wrxght and two members, Janet Jones and Pearletta Crossley who left us to Jom troupes ln Alhance and Whxtman respectwely Our fzrst ordeal was an off1c1al try out to determine our talents After an hour of hxgh pressured tlnnkxng our mtellxgence quotlents were measured We were then gxven our mztxatlon at a Fxrst N1ghter performance under the management of the Troupe of 1948 It was an xmpromptu but a hlghly success ful productzon featurmg a mock weddmg baby feedxng sk1t and hshmg act on Mam Street We were saddened by the sudden death of one of our lxvehest and happxest members, Phylhs Warner on February 5 We spent a great deal of our tune and energy on Pep Club and basket ball durmg the wmter months One of our members was gwen a star role Jlm McCray was appomted as student manager of the Longhorn Basketball Team We very faithfully journeyed to games xn all directions fmally makmg Blg Txme at the State Tourney rn Lincoln One of our members Donald Collms earned h1s letter H' that year Act II SOPI-IOMORE SYNOPSIS There were eleven members of the troupe present at the fzrst rehearsal of our second year s trainmg As directors we elected .hm McCray president Junror Herr vice president Barbara Evert secretary treasurer and Mrs Kreamer sponsor At mud year Jumor Herr assumed the presidency and Mrs Tedd of Lmcoln became our sponsor We dxscovered that no one felt partxcularly interested m a Sophomore so we lost our self consciousness and began to act more nonchalant and sophxstlcated That year we learned to do our c1v1c duty and held an electron Gomg contrary to natxonal trends we elected N GOP ff Dewey as president January 1949 BLIZZARD Operatxons Hay Lxft and Snow Plow Everyone helped dig out NNN Tune for our troupe to gwe a socxal whlrl arrived Mr Earl Monahan showed colored hlms of ranchxng operations m the Sandhxlls and we played games and danced untnl time for refreshments The combxned troupes went into an all out effort to wxn the Regxonal Basketball Tourney from St Agnes at Allxance after we won the Dxstnct Meet at Seneca Success was ours and agam we had an ufnportant engagement to compete ln the State Tourney at Lmcoln There we unxtedly stood agamst Ulysses but lost The last hxt of the season was the pxcmc and softball tournament held at Monahans ranch the day precedmg summer vacatzon Act Ill JUNIOR SYNOPSIS Georgla Dubry deserted us for a larger troupe at St Agnes Academy Jo Pmkerman jomed our troupe for szx weeks but most of the year there were only exght members as Therldean and Learoy Wrxght moved to Ashby We elected the followmg dxrectors Barbara Evert president John Martin vxce presldent Pat Varner secretary, Junior Herr treasurer and Mlss Wink sponsor We began studyxng more advanced scrxpts that season We had never felt the need of much money hereto x,,,:, fore but havmg attamed acclalm as amateurs we decided to use our talents to fi acqunre a higher fxnancxal standxng We selected a three act comedy Rxme and ---nz' Rxme Agam and began rehearsals nn earnest We borrowed two character ac - G.. We assumed the star roles of thls Hyannxs Theatre Group and our fxrst production was the mltlatnon of the amateurs known as the Troupe of 1954 These f1fteen young people proved mgennous III costummg and showed promlse in the1r actmg abxlxty Our publxcity agent per 5. lxfe drama m the 1951 LONG ments to pay for thzs Most of D , this project the only fatahty Q , S X for personal photographs we l. i 'l left for our Understudles and declded to gwe them some favorable publxcxty too Our Chrlstmas party was held on December 22. w1th the Troupe of 1952 m charge of entertamment The productwn managers came through with hohday treats as usual February was our buszest month with partxes volleyball games pep club rallxes basketball games and the one K act play contest crowdmg the calendar The wh1st1e blew for our last Dnstrlct Tourney an basketball at Seneca on suaded us to publxsh our true HORN We sold advertxse us spent a day 1n Allzance on one cute pup' After posxng found we had plenty of space February Z8 We made such a fme showmg we can rest on our laurels The Pep Club entertaxned at a basketball banquet whxch made an approprxate fmale for our athlet1c careers In March Barbara Evert and John Martm were gwen tough try outs called the Regents Exammatxons The biggest hxt of our four years was produced mn April wxth Mr Powell dxrectmg Agam we were fmancxally as well as artlstxcally well repald for our hours of rehearsals The Troupe of 1952 royally entertamed us at a farewell functlon m Aprxl We knew that our stay rn thls theatre group was nearmg xts conclusion We studxed so hard for our fmale that we 1elt the need of a brxef vacatxon away from mt all We left by auto on May 3 for a sneak trxp to the Black H1115 and returned May 6 dog tnred broke but happy Baccalaureate servxce was held at the Congregatxonal Church wlth the Reverend H .T Taylor mn charge We apprecmted the attractxve decoratlons of our colors and flowers which were arranged by the Troupe of 1953 At last came the day of our fmal productxon on Thursday May 17 There was a large audnence of well wxshers on hand to see presmdent of the Board of Productwn Sommers awarded honors for top per were thus successfully graduated and theatre of the world Although we were techxucally no Group we were 1nv1ted to Friday May 18 Enter ball tournament and we grand bunch of F INIS 16 us take our fxnal bows Dr Howell Managers delwered our dnplomas Mr formances of the past four years We became full fledged actors 1n the longer members of the Hyannls Theatre attend the last day pzcmc on tamment was the usual soft enjoyed our last day with a troupers . .
