Dzrectors Dzrectory Mr Russell Sommers recexved h1s A B Degree from Peru State Teachers' College and has done graduate work at Unwersrty of Nebraska He taught two years rn a rural school and seven years m hls hzme town at Byron before commg to Hyannis in 1940 Since that tune he has taught here exceptmg four years spent rn the Army For the past four years he has served as superxntendent athletxc coach and social scxence mstructor In addxtxon to co operatmg wxth the communxty ln numerous projects he sponsored the Senxor Class dxrectmg them ln thelr annual lmtxatlon party class functxons and graduatzon actxvxtxes Mr Ardo Volk of Rock Island Ilhnors recezved h1s A B Degree from Augustana College and dxd graduate work at the Umverszty of Iowa He has taught scxence and mathematxcs 1n the local hzgh school for the past three years He has been sponsor of the Class of 1952 sxnce they were Freshmen This year he assxsted them m thexr .Tumor Class actwxtnes mcludxng the Christmas party program thezr hzgh school party 1n February and thezr farewell banquet honormg the Class of 1951 held 1n Aprxl They were xn charge of Commencement decoratrons Mr Robert E Powell of Lmcoln recewed h1s B S Degree from Umversxty of Nebraska and 18 con tmumg hxs graduate work there He served ln the Navy durmg the war and has taught two years, commg to Hyannxs from Boelus last fall Besldes h1s three classes of English he taught music m the seventh, exghth and hrgh school grades He successfully coached the grade boys basketball team, served as Freshman Class Sponsor and dxrected dramatzcs whrch mcluded the Junior Class Play, a one act play for the contest at Halsey and the Semor Class Play He and hms wrfe have a two year old son Robm Mr John Cameron of Kearney recewed hls A B Degree from Kearney State Teachers' College He served two and one half years rn the Navy before startmg hrs teachmg career an Hyannis last fall In Class Sponsor and chaperoned the1r entertamment of the hlgh school the hllarrous hayrack rxde held m October A specxal project of hrs class was the Sandhxll Commerclal Contest held at Mullen the last week m March Mrs Howard has an A B Degree from Peru Teachers College She has taught homemakmg and normal trau-ung m the afternoons thxs year and helped the staff edxt the yearbook Thxs was her nmth term of school m Hyannxs Miss Edxth Durst of Elk Creek attended Peru Teachers' College and taught rural schools m Johnson and Nemaha Countxes and m the town schools of Talmage Plamvxew Broken Bow and Crawford before commg to Hyannis four years ago She organized the .Tumor Gxrls Pep Club last year and sponsored It agam this year A speclal project of her seventh and ezghth grades was on United Natzons Mlss Emzly Hendnckson, of Mitchell attended Chadron State Teachers' College and taught fzve years before coming to Hyannis last fall Her hfth and sxxth grades were actwe ux basketball pep club, and Scout work this year One of thexr most mterestmg school projects was on the study of cotton Miss Vera Foote of Dunnmg attended Boyles' Busmess College ux Omaha and the Unxversrty of M1ch1gan She has taught one year an hxgh school and three tn the grades the last two of whlch were ln Hyannrs Specxal projects of her thlrd and fourth grades were a science cupboard and a chemzcal garden Miss Foote started the Gul Scout orgamzatzon here and is leader of the Brownles Miss Neva Durst, of Elk Creek recelved B S Degree from University of Nebraska and taught un schools of Nemaha and Lancaster Countxes before acceptmg the frrst and second grades ln Hyannis three years ago As their Pioneer project this year, they dipped candles and made clay holders for them as grits for then parents at Christmas tune They held their annual Mothers' Party on Valentme s Day Mass Dorothy Zzer of Minatare attended Chadron State Teachers' College and taught one term before comxng to Hyannis last fall Her kindergarten class of surteen pupils was the largest ever enrolled m the Hyannis school She also taught grade school musxc rn the first six grades She coached the Girls' Athletxc Assoczatxon and served as cheer sponsor of the Pep Club 10 a Q 1 . u .
