fireword This book is a book if memories. Its contents are a record of all that was memorable about the 1961-'62 school year at Hutchinson High School. The year is gone, but much fy' it is still within the students. And the year is here on these pages-remaining fnrever to augment memories against the weight QF time. Who could jbrget the big dances and games and important assemblies so deephz steeped in tradition? Tradition is as much a part mf HHS as ever. It couldn't be broken by transplanting. Though the students have been brought to a new, campus-sgile building, they continue to crown their jiotball queen at the fnotball homecoming and end maidens' week with foe's Tavern. Unforgettable, too, are memories if those novel occurrences M this year that were without traditional jiundation. The students will always retain a memogz if the Twist, not in their minds, then in their aching backs. T es, they'll remember that controversial dance that outlasted its more transcient contemporaries, the Pony and Mashed Potatoesf and lcjt students gyrating in firmal attire at school dances. Each HHS'er has memories which are peculiar to himsehf It may be the car he worked so hard to pay fir or his Ksteaabf' girl with whom he broke up and made up so fjten during the year. Or perhaps he recalls most vividbf a certain wafer parg1, or his jubilant eighteenth birthday. Not all the memories gf this year are pleasant ones. Who will soon fyrget the solemn finish the Newton eleven gave to the fnotball season? How long will it be bdnre the quadrangle is Jprgotten- that plot Q' land that always seemed ten degrees colder, fifteen miles per hour windier, and three times wetter than any other portion Q' the state? No matter how exciting, poignant, or tragic the sundgz memories if this year may seem, the day will come when the students who lived them can say, with a levigi onhf time can bring, T es, I remember HHSQD
