Vote Alan Sorem Young American Alan Sorem, chosen 31st Young American, received the traditional silver loving cup and 3100 cash award in the annual awards assem- bly. The Young American award is presented by A. Lewis Oswald, class of 1917, and Wil- liam L. Mitchell, class of 1942. The recipient of the award, which has been presented since 1929, is selected by a representative group of faculty, students, and alumni. This honor represents a culmination of many honors for Alan. He has won a Na- tional Presbyterian Scholarship and was a finalist in both the National Merit Scholar- ship Contest and Summerfield Scholarship competition. As befits a young Americanf Alan has been in many high school activities. He was president of the junior class, has served two years as Hi-Y treasurer, and was president of the Spanish National Honor Society his senior year. Alan was elected Junior Rotarian and was a Boys State dele- gate. Two major fields of interest for Alan were music and dramatics. He sang with the Chorale for three years and appeared in numerous musical and dramatic productions, including the senior play. Alan Sorem
