His wife: daughfer, Janice: John Kennedy 5-monfh old son: Dr. Nicholson: and anofher daugh- fer, Julie, comprise a fypical family scene. Alfhough Dr. John H. Nicholson, principal, came here fwo years ago from Briarcliff Manor, New York, high school, he is originally a fronfier man. Born in fhe Indian ferrifory of Oklahoma, he remained in fhe Wesf during his youfh. The son of a Mefhodisf minisfer, Dr. Nicholson spenf his boyhood in Kansas. His preparafion for an educafionalicareer began af Soufhwesfern in Winfield and Emporia Sfafe Teach- ers' College. He lafer received his masfer's degree af Colorado Sfafe Teachers' College af Greely and sfudied for his docforafe al' Columbia universify in New York. In fhe shorf fimei Dr. Nicholson has served as principal of fhis high school. he has sfrongly sup- porfed and endeavored fo arrange many improve- monfs for fhe school. In his quief buf effecfive way he has gained a posifion of influence in educafional circles, and his belief has many 'rimes been a deferm- ining facfor in imporfanf decisions. Dr. NichoIson's primary ambifion for fhis school is a gradual buf significanf change in curriculum confenf. He firmly believes fhaf a school's curriculum should confain more knowledge fo fif fhe needs of youfh in fhis ever changing world, yef fhese alfer- afions should nof be carried fo fhe exfreme. Progress is difficulf fo see. he poinfs ouf, buf minor changes have already been made fo lay fhe groundwork for much more rapid advancemenf. He also baby-sifs while his wife aHends Hufchinson Symphony rehearsals. His main hobby is fhe family dog, an Irish seffer named Brendan Piper, common- ly known as Lady. This quiefly aggressive educafor is very enfhusiasiic abou+ his work and fries always +o offer coopera- iive leadership. His sound judgrneni and common sense as well as his kindly, jovial manner sfand him in good s+ead when dealing wifh his many prob- lems. Some of fhe occupafions which fake up his 'lime are visi+ing classrooms, speaking af civic clubs, meefing wifh 'lhe Board of Educalion. and infer- viewing prospecfive feachers. This versafile man enjoys speaking before fhe various civic clubs of Hufchinson as he believes 'rhaf +he way io gef bef- fer educafional sysfems is fo secure fhe coopera- fion of fhe vofers. His broadminded inferesf in +he general welfare of fhe public school sysfem has esfablished him as an enfhusiasfic supporfer of be'r'rer schools. Superiniendenf Godwin came here six years ago from La Porie, Indiana. His quiei' capabiliiies soon placed him among ihe leading adminisfrafors of ihe sfaie. He graduafed from De Pauw -uni- versify and received his mas'rer's degree from fhe Universify of Chicago. Mr. Godwin enjoys being wiih his family and his dog.
