Superiniendenf Godwin came here six years ago from La Porie, Indiana. His quiei' capabiliiies soon placed him among ihe leading adminisfrafors of ihe sfaie. He graduafed from De Pauw -uni- versify and received his mas'rer's degree from fhe Universify of Chicago. Mr. Godwin enjoys being wiih his family and his dog. Nicholson, principal, came here fwo years ago from Briarcliff Manor, New York, high school, he is originally a fronfier man. Born in fhe Indian ferrifory of Oklahoma, he remained in fhe Wesf during his youfh. The son of a Mefhodisf minisfer, Dr. Nicholson spenf his boyhood in Kansas. His preparafion for an educafionalicareer began af Soufhwesfern in Winfield and Emporia Sfafe Teach- ers' College. He lafer received his masfer's degree af Colorado Sfafe Teachers' College af Greely and sfudied for his docforafe al' Columbia universify in New York. Opening the season with a practice' meet with Burrton, the thinclads didn't really taste the cinders of competition until they traveled to Sterling April 2. Additional meets on the locals' list consisted ot a dual with McPherson April 9, Wichita AA April l5, Salina quadrarlgular and KU re- lays on April 26 and April 22-23 respectively, Hutch Invitational April 30, Ark Valley May 6, and regionals May l4 at Hutchinson. Those qualifying taced a keen tield ot competitors in the state meet held at Wichita May 20-2I to wind up the season. 1 Attending a total ot eight meets, last year's sprinsters started oft the season pulling down third on the Sterling relays, second at both Wichita AA and Salina quadran- gular, and tourth at the KU relays. The Hawks' only tirst place rating came in the Hutchinson invitational. Last three encounters found the locals third in the Ark Valley, second in the regional, and sixth in the state.
