1444646441 Advice about the difficulties that may beset a student is free for the asking if he'1l see the assist- ant principal or one of the advisers. New assistant principal, Roscoe Coyne, joined the administrative group second semester. Mr. Coyne's duties consist of assisting with clerical work, acting as adviser for assemblies, and meet- ing with Student Council. Every teacher acts as an adviser to his stu- dents: however Miss Esther Cope and Mr. W. T. Cole serve as special counselors, who may be con- sulted by students wishing help with their problems. For boys wishing to find in what field their talents lie, aptitude tests are offered by Mr. Cole. Investi- gating absences-whether there's a real reason or only an excuse--is another responsibility of the ad- visers. ' 23 ,fa-rx I .1 I I X 4 1 . lb MISS ELMA HAMILL English Modeling projects made for their English classes are Mary Waddell and Margaret Purvis with their Lady Mac- beths and Dale Hankins with his Eliza- bethan theater. www' For the past three years the English department of Hutchinson high school has been working under the newly revised language arts curriculum which has as its goal improvement in writing, speaking. reading, and listening. By the time the student finishes high school he has conquered many gross errors in the use of the English language, for daily he has had opportunities to perfect his English-by reading the great classics ot literature, by drilling on grammar rules and by writing themes. It the student is interested, he may get further practice by taking joumalism, speech, debate, or dramatics. Spelling, too, has come in for its share of cor- rection this year with a new remedial course added to aid those students who have always found spell- ing their worst bugbear.
