WORKING BEHIND THE SGENES 0F EDUCATION ARE THESE SEVEN VOUINTEERS' COOPEKATING with the superintendent of schools and the building principals to bring about the best possible manage- ment of the city schools is the job of the six members of the Hutchinson Board of Education. Receiving no pay for the time they put in, they do their work because of their interest in education and in the welfare of the young people of Hutchinson. The Board of Education is really a group of citizens who represent the people of the community and whose job it is to see that necessary equipment is provided for school projects, that good instructors are hired, and that needed improve- ments in school buildings and grounds are made. An additional responsibility for the Board members at the present is the 10-year school modernization program which they are sponsoring. The total cost of the building and modernization program is estimated at 51,330,000, part of which will come from the issuance of bonds and part from a sinking fund which the Board of Education created in a special building fund levy.
