layers Strike Serious ate The Lockman Players production of The Effects of Gamma Rays on Man-in-the-Moon Marigolds gave a message to its audience. The play was written by Paul Zindel and directed by Joyce McCullough. The cast of five was made of quali- ty rather the quantity. Michelle God- frey played Tillieg Karen Macklin, Beatriceg Dana Vaughn, Ruth, Karen Coon, Janice, and Renay Kushner, Nanny. Three of the characters could be compared to the experimental marigolds. Beatrice, the mother, was the unruly one, the wild plant. Ruth, the older daughter, didn't,ever seem to be happy. She was like the marigold hindered in growth. The younger daughter, Tillie, seems to be the single flower growing up to lead a normal life. It was not a happy play, but one with meaning. 11 An elderly nanny, Ftenay Kushner, trudges toward her daily hotsy and honey. 23 Ruth, the oldest child, as characterized by Dana Vaughn, at- tempts to persuade her mother, Beatrice, played by Karen Macklin, to go to the science fair. Sl The ambitious Tillie, played by Michelle Godfrey, perfected her science project of the effects of radiation on marigolds. J
