Construction adds new faculty offices. Construction began on the HCJC campus during june, 1974. The work was done by L. R. Foy Construction Co. and their sub-contractors. lThge new addition to Lockman Hall includes fa- culty offices, a guidance center, class- rooms and home economics kitchens. Final outside construction was com- pleted during spring break - March, 1975. Inside finishing is still being com- pleted with carpeting, painting, and air-conditioning. Because the number of new car sales were dropping and auto workers were being laid off, car manufac- turers offered up to S600 back on the purchase of a new car. The layoff of auto workers and other related auto industries helped to contribute to the national unemployment rate of 8.20f0 during the first four months Of 1975. At lefti Kansas Lieutenant-Governor Shelby Smith, Governor Bob Bennett, and President Gerald Ford in Wichita. According to Carl Skoch, The na- tional economy is creeping into Hutchinson - jobs are getting scarce and more students are look- ing for jobs. As of March 1 there were 309 job openings and 236 stu- dents have been placed in full or part-time jobs. At this time last year, there were seventy more openings and only seven more students had been placed. The main job opening for women is in clerical and office jobs, for men it is in construction and heavy industry.
