The English department is the largest in the division. This department provides the student with a knowledge of, ap- preciation for and skill in communicative areas of reading, writing, speaking and listening? Other departments include an art program which gives the student opportunities to develop his creativeness. The journalism department provides a background for future study or for entering one of the many fields of writing and communication. The modern language department seeks to develop a language proficiencyw to increase communication among the various nations. The music department offers courses compromising the first two years of work leading to a bac- calaureate degree in music education. A number of courses on religion and philosophy are also offered. Mr. Ashcraft directs the band pep at a football game. Mr. Blackim lectures before a speech class. l
