foreword 1968 was a happening year. No hippies invaded the campus, no love-ins were staged: but the activities ofthe year were those of enthusiasm and progress. Though the happen- ing places may have remained the same as in past years, the people have changed and have brought with them the new lU'e and spirit which are characteristic of Hutchinson Community Junior College. The personality ofthejunior college is not one ofa mass, but is one made of individuals, activities, and buildings. In this transitional period between high school and a four-year university, students are guided by their educational advisors to no longer rely on the philosophies ofothers, but become an entity within themselves as they meet growing responsibilities. Their creative thinking and working has brought them nearer to their goals. Activities are very much a part ofthe college scene. Whether it was pool in the Student Union, a football game, the spring formal, the nostalgia of graduation, or research in the library, the growing enthusiasm ofthe students and faculty alike was depicted. The college campus was expanded with the completion of the boys' dormitory. Pro- gress was shown with the paving ofthe north parking lot and the addition ofa sign mark- ing the campus on Plum Street. For some time aj7er graduation, you will not need this annual to remember the enthu- siasm, the frustrations and disappointments, the encouragements and honors, and the fun - which are all a part of this junior college. But in time to come, as these remembrances dim in your memory, this book will hopefully recall these golden moments to you.
