GOLF AND TENNIS Edngsweepstalzesfalwtclv HJC's golf squad, coached by Bill Goldsmith, won seven and lost four. The first game of the season was April 6 with Dodge City. Dean Wingert was low for 72. Final score was Hutch, 810, Dodge City, 6V2. Wingert again led Hutch against Pratt, April 10, with a score of 73 and a final score Hutch, 9V2, Pratt, 2171. On April 17, Hutch met their first defeat against Hays-9176-8172. Wing- ert continued his low score of 72. Hutch 3 and K-State Frosh 12 was the final score April 24. Art Noll, Hutchin- son, was the low scorer for the Dragons with 79. The Blue Dragons came back into a winning streak and de- feated Pratt and Garden City April 30. Hutch's scores were 13 against 5 for Pratt and 12V2 against Garden Cityls 5Vz. Don Williams shot a 79 for both games. VVing- ert returned his low score to hit a 69, May 4, against Dodge City, as Hutch led 8-4. The Dragons ran into out of league trouble against Wichita University B team and Frosh. Both Wichita teams out scored Hutch 8-4 and 9-3. Wingert led the Hutch team with a 75. Hutch out- shot Garden City 8-4, May 8. Again medalist Dean Wingert hit 81 for low scorer. The Juco Dragons won the state golf match, May 12, and were entitled to a berth in the nationals which were played, June 1-4, in Michigan. In the state match Hutch scored 15 while Wingert hit 117. TENNIS William Kitchens's tennis netters began the year, April 7, with a tri-angular meet at Hutch. The Dragons defeated Garden City 9-0 and Arkansas City 7-0. At another triangular meet at Arkansas City, April 14, Hutch defeated both St. John 7-2 and Arkansas City 8-1. The Blue Dragon netters hit their first defeat against Ft. Hays, April 16, by 2-7. Back in their own league, April 20, on Dodge City's court, Hutch defeated Garden City 7-0 and Dodge City 5-1, On April 25, the Dragons met K-State and lost 0-7. In a return match with Ft. Hays, Hutch lost 4-5, May 1. In the state meet at Pratt, May 12,Jim Buller took second and Don Gordy took third in the singles, while Randy Salmons and Bob jackson finished second in the doubles.
